Much better than the original! Some critiques

The idea of your monster from your past revisiting was much more interesting than a random released crazy.

Then him reclaiming his mask! The brutal kills will some good gore.

The Doctor twist was great. I would have made it even creepier, like have him say to her in the car that he wants to rape her and then let Mike kill (that would have put it over the top.) It was still a good twist.

Shortcomings was the daughter/granddaughter dynamic. It needed more work, and better casting.

I would have also reworked the crazy old lady storyline as it felt a little bit too much like Sarah Connor prepping for judgement day.

Actually this movie is so bad that you start to question why you ever liked the pretentious Halloween franchise to begin with when you have Jason and Freddy

reply

It was enjoyable enough. The first did nothing for me.

Michael was far more "random released crazy" in this film though. Laurie had to go find him and then the script had to help Michael find her.

"The Doctor twist was great." How?

I would have made it even creepier, like have him say to her in the car that he wants to rape her and then let Mike kill (that would have put it over the top.) WHYYYY?!?!?!?

Terror thats why. The police car went from being a safety space with a trusted doctor and officer, to a cage with monsters.

reply

That's not terror, that's just terrible.. Michael is the villain we come for not weirdos that are needed to be weirdos when the script demands. I'd leave rape out of Halloween, it's not creepy it's just cruel.

If only they scrapped the stupid doctor, that dumb house, the teen drama, another lame bus crash incident, and the fact that pure evil was captured in the first place, then I think we would've had better to work with.

Sounds like a completely different movie you wanted. The movie is also a homage to the first so they needed the teen element, the escaped prisoner storyline, the sheriff etc. Booby trapped homes are a little bit Home Alone so I was a little meh about the ending, and the fact that a timid character in the first became Sarah Connor.

And I do get the teen aspect but they didn't tug in any direction enough to give me what they were going for. Like is this Laurie's revenge? Michael's Revenge? The Doctor's Uprising? A Generational Terror with Michael going after Laurie's grand daughter and her friends? In the end, I felt like we got no where. Laurie didn't die and Michael didn't either.

I'll admit I do have some heavy expectations but I really want a new experience with these films.

I see it as multiple things coming to a head.

I respectfully disagree. :]
