Hollywood is a strange place, they chew and spit out a lot of talent that are hyped up as the next big thing. I think with Alison, just a case of maybe her career not been the number 1 thing in her life, having a family before she really cemented herself and just been passed by newer up and coming talent really. She's not the first and she won't be the last for this to happen too. I just think she's happy to be a mum and do her own thing, and fair play to her. Seems like she's a acting teacher as of now in 2019, and her last roles were bit parts in Horror film called The Vatican Tapes in 2015, a thriller called Urge in 2016 and a film called Officer Downe in 2016. One was directed by her husband and the other produced by him. So it was probably just done as a favor to her husband more then her career faltering. She's 39 as of right now, she could get herself back into it maybe through a TV Show or a Indie film or two but I don't think she will. She hasn't chosen her roles really well for me, even her indie fare isn't the greatest. She looks far uncomfortable in the bigger budget work. Is she a case of been a one hit wonder maybe, working with Paul Thomas Anderson always brings the best out of anyone no matter how good a actor they are. The closet she came to impressing me was in Queen of Earth, I thought she was very good in that but she was massively overshadowed by a stunning performance by Elisabeth Moss. I don't think she's lived up to the hype of Inherent Vice performance, maybe she is underutilized but I just get the feeling she's not choosing the right roles for herself. Do The Right Thing, and it's not even close. It's probably the best film of the 80's and one of the greatest of all time. I say Malcolm X is a close second. 25th Hour, Jungle Fever, Crooklyn, Summer of Sam, Inside Man, Clockers and He Got Game are also great films. I'm going to fly the flag for Y Tu mama Tambien, that film deserves a lot more love. Great film, plus Maribel Verdu as one of most underrated beauties, damn she's smoking. Bernal and Luna have great chemistry together. But Children of Men is a classic. Still think Gravity is overrated, probably that's just me. Heathers- Probably her best performance and film for me Lucas- She's not the main focus, but she's so cute and the film has a ton of heart to it. Little Women- I watched this over Christmas and really enjoyed it and Winona is very good in it. It was getting hyped up cause it's a Netflix film, they are great at hyping up their films (well the ones they want to push anyway), and you had Shannon Purser getting a bit of a cult following cause of Stranger Things, amazing such a small role leaving such a big impact. As someone said uneventful, Netflix just struck the iron while it was hot with the success of 13 Reasons why teen thing was cool and their main star had a bit of fame cause of a popular show she was in. Anchorman or The Other Guys, I just couldn't get into The Big Short maybe I give it another go. For me The Other Guy's is a comedy gem, Step brother's is a lot of fun but The Other Guy's just had me laughing anytime I watch it. Anchorman is a comedy classic. But I'm going The Other guys. In Cold Blood, probably. Maybe Cat on the Hot thin Roof. Elmer Gantry is fantastic as well. Tough to call between those three but I give it In Cold Blood. But I love the Professional's, a really underrated western. As you have Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Jack Palance and the sexy Claudia Cardinale in the cast, it's a shame it's not more spoken about. I like Looking For Mr. Goodbar, probably has Diane Keaton's greatest performance. I think JLaw is very good in this, probably her best performance behind Winter Bone (still her greatest performance imo). But it wasn't a Oscar worthy winning performance imo, I thought Bradley Cooper's role was more Oscar worthy then her's. But that's the thing about the Oscar's, it's all about companies smooching Oscar voter's and the performers kissing backside. Also they have a habit at throwing awards at the bright young things coming up that studio's have money on been a success, a bit like Paltrow in SIL, and Emma Stone recently in La La Land. None of those performances were Oscar winning worthy imo. Especially Paltrow's. It's a bit like also with Oscar's throw award's at performers for their career's or past snub's to make up for their mistakes, a bit like Colin Firth been snubbed for A Simple Man (his best performance) and given him it for The King's Speech and given Sandra Bullock the award for her whole career not cause she was that great in The Blind Side. Also with JLaw, I didn't think her performance in American Hustle was deserving of a Oscar Nom either. I'm meaning to check that out, thanks for the recommendation Iaaat. She's one of the better actress under 30, some of her choices are interesting, I like that she takes the risks, while some don't pay off for her and that she could have taken it easy and done big budget films after the success of Alice in The Wonderland film, but she's just doing her thing and choosing what she feels like. I think she's a talent and is cute, I think the hate comes from the fact she comes off a bit like Ice Queen when you see her in interviews, a bit bitchy and stand offish. That's the complaints I hear. I think that probably just comes down to her been shy and not comfortable been in the limelight, but I bet behind the scenes if you are working on a film with her she's probably a lot of fun and is the nicest person. I agree that Emma's performance in La La Land wasn't Oscar worthy at all, I actually think her performance in the Favorite is her best performance to date and more Oscar worthy (she really needs to do more bitchy Villain stuff imo). I don't know why a lot of people get upset about the Oscars, a week after the event everyone forgets who wins and most of the films who do win end up been forgotten about in a few years, aside from the real great movies. With J.Law, it seems like whatever she releases they throw her award noms just to get her on the award shows, as she bring a lot of press with her. I never thought that her performances in American Hustle or Joy were award worthy imo. Still think Winter Bone is her best performance to date, I liked Silver Linings Playbook but I thought J.Law was very good but not Oscar worthy at all. I think Emma is more consistent with her work over the last few years, not everything she does is success (Aloha for example). I don't think so Allaby, have to disagree with you. I think Up in The Air and Thank You For Smoking are still his best works. I'd even have Young Adult as Theron's best work with Reitman, that film deserves more love then it gets. I think the Darjeeling Limited would be his weakest, maybe Bottle Rocket too. I did have The Life Aquatic as his weakest for years, but I gave his films a recent rewatch and I enjoyed it far more then I did when I saw it twice when I saw it back in 2004. Not his greatest work. No not for me, I think Grand Budapest and Rushmore are his masterpieces. I think The Royal Tenenbaums follow them. I was disappointed with The Life Aquatic.. when I first saw it and it was Anderson weakest film for me for quite a while, but after watching it again two or three years ago, I've warmed to it a lot more in recent years. Bill Murray is excellent, and the soundtrack is Anderson's best and that's saying something and the ending still get's me slightly teary eyed, plus William Dafoe is a scene stealer in this. My weak points of it are it takes far too long to get going and interesting, I always thought Cate Blanchett was wasted in this. I'd put it under his most underrated film. It was always going to have a tough time following up The Grand Budapest Hotel, Anderson's masterpiece imo. It definitely isn't Anderson's best film, but I still take this over The Darjeeling Limited which I think is Anderson's weakest film and The Life Aquatic.. which was my weakest Anderson film but I've warmed more to that film as the years have gone on. But Isle of Dogs is a enjoyable film overall. It's definitely a love it or hate it type film, I personally thought it could have done with some editing down especially the first hour of the film. But once Cage goes full on Cage, and the Revenge kicks in it's a enjoyable enough film. Not a classic imo, but it's beautiful to look it and Cage gives one of his better performances and you get interesting villains. Stan and Ollie has been getting rave reviews, you can't call it a flop yet and The Sister brothers was a critical hit. Every actor has a stinker or two in their canon, so let's not go OTT over one shit film and say a actor's career is over. Plus C.Reilly isn't a A Lister, Ferrell is the one who needs to worry not C.Reilly. The only one that I personally enjoyed more then this of his was Dogtooth, the film that put him in the film map. I think The Lobster, his first English speaking film, is fantastic for it's first two acts, basically everything in the hotel with a show stealing Olivia Coleman is for me when the film is at it's best. Once Farrell's character escapes I didn't think the film was that great, but I probably be in the minority on that one. But Farrell is excellent, as is the supporting cast. The Killing of a Sacred Deer is probably his bleakest work, and it's a uneasy work. Some of the acting might put people off, not that it's bad just the way Lanthimos had the actors act in a stilted lifeless way. But Barry Keoghan is excellent in it, as is Farrell again. Not a film for everyone, pretty much like a lot of Lanthimos's work. I haven't seen Alps, his follow up to Dogtooth, it seems to have slipped through the cracks on his C.V. Pretty much the Favorite is the closet so far he's come to a Oscar/Audience friendly film. I'm surprised the Award committees have really gone with it, not cause it's a bad film just cause it feel's so unlike something that could win a Oscar. And Anne does the exact same thing to Abigail in the end, and it's sort of Sarah's revenge on Abigail in a way. Sarah had control of Anne, but Anne respected Sarah and loved her and vice versa in a way and in a way Sarah was doing right for Anne. As much Abigail tries to destroy Sarah and try to get her rank back into the high life and think's she's in control of it all, she's still the maid to Anne and that will never change. She's the rabbit. Well that's what I got out of the ending.
