Hope it turns out better than the shape of it.
It said "The Bog", which I'm assuming was a community in which she interviewed several people. And those were tapes 17-24; 24 tapes from The Bog, total. Though it could just be that 17-24 are from The Bog. The name was blurry on the first three boxes, couldn't tell.
Until now, I had thought, "Why in the hell is he so bent out of shape about finding a woman whose real name he didn't even know? Is he a nut-job weirdo? Some post-apocalyptic stalker?" Now we see why. He's a totally normal, albeit simple, small-town man who has been through periods of extreme loneliness both before and after everything went to hell. He finally finds someone, and develops a genuine bond with them. Absolute real love, in his eyes, despite not knowing her actual name. And those Scrabble pieces in the tin... heartbreaking (and damn good writing). We find out what caused his pre-apocalypse loneliness and why he is such a great shot. He continues to shop and rent movies weekly (even signing the sign-out sheet lol) instead of just taking it all. I guess it's all in one's subjective perception. He's now the most interesting character, with the most interesting character traits, on either show, to me. "The personality of a peanut" to some, is a simple, peaceful, kind, generous, unassuming hero to others. Not sure if you have or haven't been, but being alone for long periods of time has made John (and the way they covered his backstory) very relatable to me.
How could one not pull for this simple, modest good guy?
I came on here wondering if I was going to be the only one who thought so. Fantastic episode. Best on either show in FOREVER.
And do the beatings go off without any hitches?
Makepeace stole your girl, didn't he? Fuckin' player.
Damn funny. This beauty of a line is another poster child for why we need a like button 👍.
Santanico - having or displaying the qualities of Carlos Santana.
Maybe Quentin and/or Robert was a fan of that movie and wouldn't have any legal hangups if they changed a letter in the spelling. Quentin is always referencing old stuff in interviews and lectures.
That was my understanding. An oddball romance.
Absolutely. I think it was one of those situations where one guy is so crazy that he makes the other slightly less crazy guy seem normal. Like you said, Seth's own issues didn't get explored as much, but it seems clear that they are present. Like at the end, Kate actually wants to go with him, but he seems to go against his darker proclivities, telling her no and leaving. They gained respect for one another in their experience together. That respect made her want to go with him. That same respect is why he told her no. He wanted her to have a better life than what being around him would offer. That's how I've always seen it anyway; one of my all-time favorite films.
There's a definite "Of Mice and Men" feel to it.
I would highly recommend it. It's probably my favorite Lars von Trier film. This is probably also my favorite performance from Nicole Kidman. All around great cast. John Hurt's narration is the icing on the cake.
Alright, thanks for keeping me posted. I'll check it out one day.
I agree. I think Jesse Plemons can have a great future playing creeps, if he wants it. Also, with his voice and overall demeanor (especially in this), I think he would be a great fit to play Michael Shannon's son or younger brother in something. I'd love to see those two act together.
I feel like that is originally what they wanted, a WD 2.0, but I know there are some people who've never even tried Fear, and some who tried it at first, but didn't like it and stopped. And now that WD's quality has started to diminish, I think it's rushing their overall time table on merging the two and coming to an eventual endgame.
It seems like they are going for a "I wanted to be alone, but then I met this dude who's lonelier and more messed up than I am..." kind of thing, especially with that ending.
It does seem like there has to be something bigger to him crossing over. It may have just been a ratings ploy, trying to snag Walking Dead viewers who still haven't given Fear a chance. I'd like to think that Morgan is the way that the two shows will eventually merge. Shit will hit the fan at an all-time level (for the Fear crew, which with Nick's death seems to be soon) and he'll say something like, "You all have shown me 'yada yada ya', and I realize I need to be back with my family. Come with me."
lol I literally said to my wife, "Oh no! Some picnic tables! Better jump in the pool with them..."
There was so much clear space around the edge of the pool. And like you said, the tables/chairs could have been easily climbed over. I understand they wanted to write a way for her to lose her knife and subsequently find "her new weapon", but it still seems like they could've written a better way.
After all of that, I didn't even think about how they got down, good point. They couldn't make it over the tables and chairs, but they must've parkour off of that with ease.
Agreed. Really solid kid's movie. Kid movies now days seem so empty and shallow compared to the ones back in this era. I really liked watching Haim when I was growing up. This, The Lost Boy's, Silver Bullet, Fast Getaway, and the ones with Feldman.
Wow, high praise. Shame it was cancelled. I had never even heard of it before this thread. I'd like to know if you think it's worth watching when you get done with season 2, or if it's too unresolved at the end.
