I agree, it is the best SW film for:
- Using the DVD as a coaster
- Lining my cat's litter tray with the poster
- Replacing my trashcan with the hexagonal popcorn tin
- Wiping my arse with the t-shirt
I'll watch it, but with reservations. It's basically the last chance for Disney. If they fuck it up, I'm done.
You can take risks and do something different and innovative WITHOUT ignoring/trashing existing lore/characters or plot points set up in the first part of the TRILOGY of which your film is the second part.
The correct approach really isn't rocket science.
Agreed, this sums it up precisely. Feeling rewarded is the key. IW is very rewarding for people who have followed the MCU characters and watched the movies for several years. TLJ seemed to go out of it’s way to avoid rewarding fans.
It will always baffle me why they didn't just adapt Zahn's trilogy. I read it when it first came out, and it would have made an awesome sequel trilogy.
I really do hope Abrams can pull a rabbit out of the hat and largely retcon TLJ.
If he does, then he'll probably be hailed as a Luke Skywalker-esque hero who saved the franchise.
If he fails, then he might be struggling to get a director's job ever again. At the very least, I'll have to seriously reconsider my fandom, as I'm sure will many others.
I was beginning to think I was the only one who noticed these things. Han certainly seemed to know (or at least have a strong suspicion) as to who Rey was. This and many other plot threads set up, then ignored by Johnson. What a wasted opportunity!
"They came from behind!"
Likewise. Really, I don't give a fuck about the SJW agenda. I just want a great Star Wars movie! One with sharp writing, three-dimensional characters, solid plot, well-paced storyline that respects existing lore. Is it really too much to ask that all of the aforementioned take priority over pushing a social agenda?
And yet in TFA he was the hot-shot pilot who could command a squadron of X-Wings and fly a TIE Fighter on his first try. In this movie, they basically cut his balls off.
The chase scene is long, but not overly so, IMHO. It's pacing is fast enough that you don't really notice the length of it. It also fits into the plot at that point in the movie, so it's not just something gratuitously thrown in for the sake of having an action sequence.
I'd recommend you give the film another go. It is a little slow in a couple of spots, but there's plenty of action to make up for it, and an interesting plot with decent characters.
Just be careful you don't get ambushed by a cup of coffee.
It was ambushed by a cup of coffee
Bit of raspberry jam back there!
Well, Gregor was stupid for thinking that
Mikhi would not allow the ice skater to be shot. I mean, that's pretty cold: banging the ice skater you're managing, then let her get shot just so you can shoot Gregor and keep both case and cash?
So I'd say that while Gregor is no doubt a cold-blooded killer, Mikhi proved to be colder, since Gregor could not exploit Mikhi's emotions.
Seamus was ruthless, but everything he did was in service to his cause, as opposed to reckless, indiscriminate murder.
[gestures emphatically with hands] He had to have the case made.
Aaaand, cue existential crisis lol 😂
While I would never have countenanced a reboot prior to TLJ, I have to admit that I’m not so averse now. Something radical needs to happen to save the franchise, that’s for sure
It’s almost as if they wanted to destroy it. Even Kylo could be seen to have alluded to this: “Let the past die. Kill it if you have to”
Wtf are the Saturn awards? Never heard of them, and this is probably why. Credibility: 0
