First of all, the visible trail is due to a sudden difference in air pressure caused by the projectile. It's not even some deep mystery, there's simple science behind it and it is a common topic among hunters and other shooters and is also part of sniper training.
There are tons of videos online where you can see these trails clearly. Tons.
It wasn't shards of glass and I don't understand why some people insist on it... oh right, to further down play the assassination attempt because they are leftists and are fuming that Trump survived, so all they can do now is make light of the whole ordeal.
Meanwhile we have a fucking picture of the bullet's vapor trail that hit him, but hey... "glass"; I guess.

Probably because the forum is moderated old-school before newspeak was a thing. meaning, people of all sides can openly share their wildest opinions and practice freedom of speech, virtually. That's not possible on any popular social media platform due to their draconian rules... so these people come here.
Maybe if leftists would not cause all the other social media platforms to curtail freedom of speech, this wouldn't be an issue and we could all talk about Jaws, Gladiator and 12 Angry Men. But here we are.
Yeah I am not surprised leftists do not understand (dark) humor and thus think that saying "don't miss next time!" after a person was almost murdered is "funny". It isn't. There was no pun, no nothing, it wasn't a joke and it's not how jokes work, let alone dark humor, so stop pretending that it was just a joke.
This was a nutjob expressing how sad he was about a human being not having been murdered. That's not humor, that's alarming - at least to people with an intact morale compass.

That's nonsense, though, here is why.
The idea of shooting for center mass is to maximize the chance to hit. In the context of a military conflict, there is no need to actually kill the target, you just need to hit it. A wounded combatant is a bigger burden to his squad than a dead one anyways.
However, this was an assassination attempt. The idea was to kill. A chest shot with a .223/5.56 is not necessarily a kill shot, especially if it isn't the heart or aorta that's hit/destroyed. A lung shot takes time to kill and with medical staff present, no dice.
The only real option is a headshot, period.
I'd also like to add that ANY sort of marksman would have made that shot work out. A "better marksman" going for center mass would make no sense. How is he the better marksman if he doesn't have the skill to hit a stationary head sized target at < 200 yards with a modern rifle and cartridge that shoots straight as an arrow at that distance?
