In his episode of Who Do You Think You Are? where we all find out some very interesting things about his family tree, he comes across as a good guy and it's funny that he says himself how he comes from a background at odds to most of the characters he plays (upper class toff).
He's just a great actor - and his height/bearing obviously helps!
He gets a lot of surprises, there's emotion and some historical insights.
Just to add my penny's worth here... it does have its (many) flaws as a historical piece but as a piece of period dramatical entertainment, for me it does just that. I'm a bit of the history buff myself and all the inaccuracies don't boil my blood; rather I sit back and enjoy the crafted sets, the beautiful locations and let the (fictional) storylines that have been woven in to the factual do their thing. I have even grown used to the crazy blue contacts they've made Jenna Coleman wear and excuse the massive controversy-cum-best selling romancing of Queen Vicky and her Prime Minister. Rufus Sewell is always good to watch.
At the end of the day I'm a simple girl: I see costumes so I watch...and if it's got David Oakes in a fancy waistcoat, period garb, fantastic 'tash and stockings (historical costume: what else?) then all the better!
I'll probably watch it again and am looking forward to the next release.
Yes. I enjoyed it.
Wow, can't believe that, on reading the article, that both the director and dog handler were ok with the character - and the fact that they wanted the actor to actually do it - to perform a sex act on a dog. It may be related to the story but to actually portray it is in very poor taste and is also surely animal abuse and zoophilia. Disgusting!
He seemed to want her to dance for him (and also he liked to have them remove their clothing, although can't recall if this happens at this point, or further on). It's like he wants to touch them, but can't/isn't allowed so does that instead.
The scene makes you feel like he's going to be some kind of rapist perv, but from the dialogue and reactions of characters in that scene, I think she has wet herself (doesn't one of them tell her to, to prevent a rape?), which disgusts him and therefore he chucks her back in the room with the other two.
