I was definitely disappointed. It was more like a Lifetime TV Network movie than a movie about one of the greatest scientists of all time. If we're not going to get much about his work and his contributions, it's more just a random biopic.
Boom! That is exactly what I was thinking. Pretty certain that Cronenberg saw this and took inspiration.
The two words I would have been using to keep me sane would be: "Ice Cream." But, hey, whatever works for you! :-)
There's nothing remotely Christian about any of them. That's pretty much the only religious commentary I could imagine.
So, you have a fascist view on racial purity, and you actually want people to sign off on it? Is that what you're expecting?
Yeah, I guess I was thinking, if they were just speaking in English, we wouldn't be getting that syrupy-slow, muddled "acting." Maybe the actors would speak at a normal pace if they were speaking English. I will watch a movie, etc. with subtitles. But, I think you have to hold the audience's interest if you're going to do that. I felt that I could go do my dishes, come back, and that Klingon scene would still be going!
That's ACTUALLY a good reason to subscribe! "Discovery" isn't. :-)
The premiere couldn't reach 10 million viewers. Putting the show on a night when football was going to run over was a bizarre choice to start off with. So, as you said, if you tried to DVR it, you only got part of it. Then, during the episode, you had these epic four-plus-minute commercial breaks, including ads for CBS All Access on each commercial break!
How exactly was this supposed to make you want to fork over your money for ANOTHER streaming service? Especially since the episode wasn't good, in the first place.
Do you mean: One person on this board, or one person anywhere? ;-)
I guess that I am lucky in my not running into that too much! But then, I usually go to the movies when I am up in St. Louis. There, they have $5 admission for even IMAX if you go to the morning show. So, even if it is a new movie, the attendance is light. And, I am guessing that only the people who actually want to see the movie are going to go at that time! :-)
But, with Villeneuve closing in on three hours with this sequel, you have to wonder if that running time is really necessary.
Unfortunately, it was mistaken as a North Korean attack and shot down. :-)
I love how they want you to blow a bunch of money signing up to their streaming service so you can watch this one show!
Plus, you have to pay $10/month to watch without commercials. The basic fee means you are paying to watch the show, AND you have to sit through commercials!
Lastly, I loved how they so thoroughly screwed up the first episode on broadcast. It was 19 minutes late due to the NFL kneelers. And then, you have to have interminable commercial breaks all throughout the episode. And, each break included a 15-second advert to blow money on CBS All Access. Good luck with that! :-P
Clearly the musical inspiration here! Yeah, pretty bad stuff. :-)
Oops! Man, Kurtzman can't write or direct worth a @#$%. So, yeah, Alex, we don't believe a thing you say.
Mass suckage detected, Captain.
No. It's a turgid, random Bryan Fuller dirge with a non-existent "score."
Alex Kurtzman, who screwed up "Trek" in two movies is on this project. So, no, Abrams' idiots are working on this show.
CBS fought like hell to stop what would have been a great fan production like Axanar so we could get bad "canon" crap like this.
Wow! That's saying something! "Beyond" was one of the most inert things I've ever seen.
"Discovery" clearly shows the signs of having a dozen cooks in the kitchen. Having hack screenwriters like Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman clearly has a very bad effect.
And, the "involvement" of Meyer and Gene Roddenberry, Jr. are clearly in name only. That was just to lure us in to thinking that there would actually be some Trek in this "Trek."
Yeah, her character kidnaps a CHILD? Honestly? Wow! They didn't do that in the remake. Yes, her character has ZERO morals, to put it mildly. This is a pretty sleepy movie, at best. Just watching two objectionable people playing each other. The film score is its only positive attribute. Even Haskell Wexler's cinematography is pretty straight down the middle.
