I think Up in Smoke had their best movie moments (especially the beginning when Cheech picks up the busty hitchhiker Chong), but the second film is their funniest from beginning to end. The early 80s marked the end of when the inmates were running the Hollywood asylum, but a great period of time it was for movies. Lots of creative freedom that you don't see so much these days.
Season 1, especially, was a very clever inversion of the characters we saw from the '84 film. The writers ran out of good ideas very quickly, especially when the focus shifted to the teens and their daily dramas. Johnny being an out-of-place 80s guy trying to give his life meaning in the 21st century was the heart of the show, along with the original Karate Kid turning into a smarmy ass.
What, do you buy lunch and launder shirts for the cast and crew and are desperately hoping for Season 7? You're more hostile and toxic than most of the criticisms on this forum. So stop being a blubbering vagina and belching out phony righteous indignation.
This is a flaw in the film because, what, Peter Willis was secretly a pornstar in his spare time?
When was Jason Reitman ever in good form? I don't think he's a bad director by any means, but for the most part a bland product of Hollywood nepotism.
I agree that the first sketch was not good at all. However, after that there dozens upon dozens in the first 5 years that were comedy gold. My favorite was the Sodom Chamber of Commerce brainstorming about how to improve their city's reputation.
Her only base consists of neocons with government influence, not regular people. It's remarkable how Democrats have embraced her. Democrats have become the Republicans I used to hate in the 1980s for their crass warmongering.
It is a great movie, a very unusual entry in the film noir genre in my view. I'd just never much thought up the post-mortal narration before. You also get that in "Carlito's Way" among other films.
Mad was still good throughout the 80s. William Gaines, the original brains behind the operation, died in 1992 and was likely losing steam years before that. Add to this the aging of Al Jaffee, Mort Drucker, etc, and you have the reason for Mad's decline.
Why not? People get excoriated for making the "ok" sign with their fingers and having it interpreted as a white power sign. If those are going to be the rules then let 'er rip on Beyonce. For the promotion of gang violence, she should lose all her endorsement deals and every concert venue should cancel her permanently.
