Mad Magazine satire

I read my dad's old Mad magazine collection. In one of them, there was a satire of the movie. I like the ending where a they say "The moral of the story is 'if you want someone to like you, you have to become a slut'. What a wonderful message for the youth of America!"

There was a time when MAD was very funny and nailed a lot of points. Then they became a political shill attacking one side only and came off as whiny and bullies.

reply

That's why they went out of business.

Mad was still good throughout the 80s. William Gaines, the original brains behind the operation, died in 1992 and was likely losing steam years before that. Add to this the aging of Al Jaffee, Mort Drucker, etc, and you have the reason for Mad's decline.

I got the Election Special last year and wish it was still going in its old form. You're probably right about why it declined.

My favorite artist/writer was Sergio Aragones. He graduated from the "marginal" art to doing some of Mad's best bits.

reply

The modern age has proven that true.

Not very good in comparison to other musical satires.

reply

I thought it was good, and right on point.

Reminds me of The Breakfast Club when Ally Sheedy’s character gets her makeover and goes from Goth to girl next door. Kind of the reverse of Grease but still done to attract the guy.

Moral of the story to attract someone you must change.
