As others have stated, I always thought that Vader simply got 'promoted' after Tarkin died.
I also feel that Lucas, being the smart filmmaker that he was, adapted to what was most successful from ANH for the rest of the films, eg. Vader resonated so well with audiences so he was made more prominent.
I completely agree that it has incredible sound design. This majorly contributed to the unique style and production and overall success of the film. It set new standards, that's for sure.
The musical score is another major contributor. Instead of having a trendy synthesizer score which was common to sci-fi of the seventies, Lucas went with epic orchestral music which really elevated our perception of what was happening on screen.
I know exactly what you mean. The cast selection was quite out of touch with the sci-fi crowd which had pushed Star Wars to number one in the box office.
Star Wars proved that relative unknowns can work really well if everything else is working for it.
I've wanted a remake of this for a long time. I really hope it happens.
Haha yeah, it was quite refreshing, and very well done!
'Saturday Night' is another new loosely, kinda-related / themed film, but I wouldn't recommend it. As much as I like the early SNL stuff, this film was a let down.
I've been a fan of their work since forever and actually just read through the Sep update yesterday!
I had wondered also if something had happened but, given the length of time things are taking, I'm guessing it's just taking them longer to bring us something good to share.
Bit of a soppy romance but there's Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeve. You have to have a bit of patience to enjoy it.
Nice interpretation! :)
I didn't recognise the name but the face seemed vaguely familiar. Turned out to be the main guy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine but I honestly didn't recognise him.
I'm about 75% through and find it is a lot less enjoyable than I thought it would be.
I was gonna mention the fridge! But I didn't recall a bootlegging thing.
It wasn't an exciting movie and space was just a setting for a story which leads to a twist. It reminded me of Moon, Dark Star, Red Dwarf and Event Horizon in some small ways, and so I still enjoyed it.
Are you saying this was his character in the original story treatment or early draft script, or something?
Maybe to swerve at the last moment, and lead the pursuers into it.
Like how in the Blue Thunder helicopter LA river chase Murphy heads for the bridge pylon and then turns at the last moment to get the pursuing police helicopter to crash into it.
Apart from the refit Enterprise, I've got a real soft spot for the Reliant (ST2). But I do really love the Bird of Prey which we see in 3 to 6. It was also simply awesome to see the Klingon warship up close on the big screen again.
It obviously 'dampened' her fall by matching her velocity and then rapidly easing her to a stop, all within a second or whatever it was! But yeah... those tails are designed to slice and dice!
Yes, I watched it and saw that also. It created a bit of a BTTF paradox in that if she saves her sister than she may cease to exist. I thought the three of them were gonna go live in the future, since the boy kinda said he didn't have much at that time too.
Interesting point. A lot of people are busy visiting family or having family visit, or going on holiday away from the cold in the US.
I wonder if this is why Xmas movies are still being released months before actual Xmas like has been happening this year (not necessarily in cinemas).
I have always loved Stamp's version the best but there's no denying that Shannon did a wonderful job with the character. As good, but in some different way.
Amazing, the US got it a whole six months plus after AU (and 4 months the UK!). Goes to show how different things were back then, how 'protected' the industry was before it all changed with home video and later the internet and file sharing.
