Agreed. One of my favorites. I consider this an essential Vietnam War film. If you like this one, check out other films by the Hughes Brothers. All their work is gritty like this. (From Hell and Menace II Society come to mind) Been a while since I’ve watched it, but if I remember correctly we see that Travis kept a bunch of news clippings detailing the incident and aftermath, and I always took that to mean he had basically gotten away with vigilante justice because of special circumstances, like maybe public opinion was in his favor. But, if anything, he should have at least got into some sort of trouble for illegally owning weapons. And that contraption he built for his arm should have raised some red flags, not to mention his haircut. Maybe the ending is just a rabid fantasy, or a daydream while he’s driving his taxi, but I’ve always taken the ending at face value. Well, they were pimping out children. Travis could have called the cops, I guess. But Travis was insane, and bloodthirsty. At least the people he killed were scumbags. Maybe his punishment is yet to come, or perhaps his day to day existence was punishment in and of itself. It is one of my all time favorite movies. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Never noticed that. The three act structure was apparent, but I didn’t catch a difference in the film grade. Very cool! They are both very well made films, but have different vibes. The Patriot is more of a revenge story, that pays off in the end but is still very tragic. Glory is a pure tragedy, that has a bunch of uplifting moments but is ultimately a very depressing ride. I disagree with your point of view, but I can understand it. Walt was the main character, so of course it makes sense to root for him, and want him to succeed, right? I view the series quite differently. Walt starts out with the best of intentions, but his actions leave the world in ruin by the end. He let his pride get the best of him. He could’ve taken the money his ex-partner offered him. But he decided to go his own way and become a scumbag criminal. And every choice he made after starting to cook meth led to mayhem and more mayhem and ultimately death. Hundreds dead because of his actions. That’s the way I see it, anyway. Walt was a horrible person and he died a villain. See it as you wish. And Walt did the world a favor by getting himself killed as well. Shame it didn’t happen before that plane crashed. His actions caused the deaths of civilians. He ruined the life of his wife and son. And he murdered people in cold-blood. Only the first was close to self-defense. Doesn’t matter if they were criminals, because he was a criminal too by that point. A filthy meth-cooking scumbag. I started out liking and empathizing with Walter White. By the end, I felt he had definitely lost his way and gone fully dark-side, and was no longer worthy of sympathy. He should have just let his cancer kill him. Too many people died for his money, and he lost the majority of it anyway, through hubris. Still, it’s a great show, one of my all-time favorites. And Walt was a violent, vindictive, and utterly shameless criminal (by the end of it all). The title makes me think this was one of Patrick Bateman’s favorite video rentals. The only Lupin I know of is from the Harry Potter series I must disagree, but your enthusiasm is delightful. I think Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick’s Christmas movie. It’s an amazing film, definitely worth a try. Caught me by surprise one day on HBO, and now I own it on DVD. It has a strange pace for a war film, and is no way action oriented. The acting is great. Gives the viewer a lot to think about. I watch this movie once or twice a year now, usually around Memorial Day, and have yet to grow tired of it. I would definitely go if it was playing in a theater near me. I’ve seen it a bunch of times over the years, just never on the big screen. It’s a pretty cool movie. True. But where would the fun be in that? Your idea is much more pleasant and optimistic than mine, and definitely a valid possibility. I just tend to lean toward comic tragedy in my fantasies. To each their own. Nothing wrong with that! Better than egg noodles and ketchup They are equal in my book.
