Is this any good?

It's got Sean Penn, but I feel like he peaked in the middle of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

It’s an amazing film, definitely worth a try. Caught me by surprise one day on HBO, and now I own it on DVD. It has a strange pace for a war film, and is no way action oriented. The acting is great. Gives the viewer a lot to think about. I watch this movie once or twice a year now, usually around Memorial Day, and have yet to grow tired of it.

I'll have to give it a try. I was obviously making a bad pun about Sean Penn. He's a good actor.

it's not good, it's great

I believe I heard Dave Attell say of a joke he had just made, "That's not funny! It's hilarious!"

A great film which looks stunning on Criterion blu ray. The visuals are extraordinary, one of the most beautiful films I've seen. The cast is huge. It's almost as if every actor in Hollywood or doing theater work in the country at that time got at least a small part. Some of the battle scenes are incredible. The pacing is very slow, but if you appreciate visuals, that won't be a problem. Even at a hefty 170 minutes I felt it went by fast.

Oh yeah it's very good, keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

It's the thinking man's Saving Private Ryan. But seeing how you think the best Sean Penn ever did is play a moronic stoner, then this film isn't for you.

I was making a bad joke. Sean Penn is a good actor.
