Run amok is putting it mildly. All of a sudden, after 30 years Apu is somehow offensive because the accent is exaggerated for comediac value? All accents are exaggerated this way for humor, whether the accent be Indian, Scottish, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Canadian, New England, New York, Southern US, or Fargo, ND. It may seem small, but people who believe these things to be offensive are ruining the world, and the internet is allowing this crackpot minority to have a voice louder than they deserve.
I used to have March of the Wooden Soldiers on VHS, taped from the WPIX showing on Thanksgiving in the 80s, but it either got lost or tossed during several moves. I miss the nostalgia of the commercial breaks, but I do have the DVD.
One thing I'm curious about is the title. It seems everywhere other than the Northeast, this is known as Babes in Toyland. For years I thought everyone else was crazy, but we seem to be the oddballs. Maybe it was just WPIX?
A little off topic, but does anyone remember the Intellivision games callers would play on screen in the afternoons after school? The player would say PIX, PIX, PIX, to fire at the enemies or for any action pretty much. I'm sure it was someone on the other end simply hitting the button when they said it!
Wait....you're equating weed to what cosby gave his victims
I don't think that's what the poster was saying at all. Weed was used as an example because more people relate to it today, as a recreational drug, possibly similar to the way quaaludes were used in the 70s.
The debate was whether or not the drug use was consensual, whether it be marijuana, cocaine, crack, heroin, beer or wine.
It does seem now though, like with so many other things,..that in alleviating one problem the pendulum has swung too far in the other extreme direction.
In order to not add to the trauma of questioning a true victim they now believe every claim without question. Isn't there ever a middle ground?
Why can't more people understand this? Society handles everything this way. It's insane. It's as if they believe drastically going to the extreme opposite end of the spectrum is somehow an intelligent solution to a problem. I've never understood it. It has never been a successful strategey, yet it's a practice that repeats and repeats.
If every one is on one end of a raft and it starts tipping, they all run to the other end, clueless that it'll start tipping the other way. No common sense at all. It makes it impossible to take people seriously.
Actually, I think Winter Soldier was the best MCU movie to date. So we definitely agree on that. Though I haven't seen Black Panther yet.
And I thought the exact same thing about Spider-Man: Homecoming. It's the first time they got Spidey right. Sadly, I didn't think they got much else right. That suit was terrible, and the cast was just bad. Not to mention the complete Reformation of MJ. It's disappointing too. Spider-Man is still my favorite Marvel character.
As for previews, I avoid commercials and online articles for all movies I want to see. Nowadays they show the entire movie in the preview, so I don't blame you.
They're removing everything that makes Eddie Brock and the symbiote, Venom. This is an origin story that really needs to stay true. Otherwise you don't have the same character we all know.
I'm glad you listed Amazing Spider-Man 300 as the first appearance of Venom. Oddly, not everyone would agree. We used to debate it all the time. A friend of mine is set in his belief that Web if Spider-Man 18 is the first apelpearance since, unless I'm remembering wrong, one of the last panels shows his hand. I say that doesn't count as an appearance, but not everyone agrees apparently.
I wish Sony would just sell the rights back to Marvel. They've already proven they can't capture the essence of the characters, but this one is a travesty. I thought Marvel was at least involved this time around, but maybe I was wrong. How could they be a part of this sacrilege?
I agree whole-heartedly.
I can't really answer that one without coming across as a persistent complainer....but with the exception of how they finally captured Spidey's true movements, I was far from impressed.
That's not too different than one of my concessions and I'd be fine with it. It at least addresses who Venom is, unlike this complete rewrite that's coming out.
I guess some people will whine about everything. Like winning the lottery and complaining you have to pay higher taxes as a result.
Good point. Venom wouldn't look like, or behave like Venom, without the symbiote first having merged with Peter Parker.
I guess only time will tell. I think at this point, the only possible saving grace would be if Spider-Man obtains the symbiote in Infinity War. Without the symbiote first merging with Peter Parker, there is no Venom. At least not the Venom in his current form. The one that looks like Spider-Man, has a spider symbol, and mimicks webshooting Even the eyes on the poster. They wouldn't look like that without Peter's influence.
I hope I'm surprised and it turns out good. Sadly, for me, that rarely happens. I can accept changes from comic to screen. This though looks like a complete overhaul that doesn't seem to add up to the Venom everyone knows. Again, time will tell.
I don't think a fraction of that is necessary. Movies have been made about most of the popular Marvel characters whether part of the MCU or not. Just like they combined West Coast and East Coast Avengers to make one team, leaving several characters out, they can do the same thing with Secret Wars. Not all the characters need to be included and the movie could introduce The Beyonder, Molecule Man, the secondary heroes and villains etc.
MCU versions of the X-Men and FF can be introduced here as well and have standalone movies later. Provided they get the rights. Spider-Man can get the suit in the movie and have one stand alone movie where he uses it and loses it and it finds Eddie Brock. The Venom movie can come right after. I don't need everything, but to me, this is a cop out. And you said "so it doesn't feel forced", but what they're doing is rushed and forced.
I'd be fine with this compromise, but they know Venom is so anticipated they don't want to spend the time or money to tell the story even partially right, because they don't want a delay. I'd be perfectly fine with a scaled down Secret Wars with less characters, as well as an abbreviated symbiote story based on the true origin. They cut corners like this in Hollywood all the time. There's no reason they couldn't do it now.
Mr. Brink only meant to touch him. He later says he didn't mean to hurt the boy. Only to take him.
It doesn't matter what happened in the past. Consistency and memory are non-existent in the writers' room.
Remember when fighting a demon was next to impossible, and forget killing one. Before the demon killing knife demons were practically unstoppable. Now Sam and Dean beat the hell out of them five or ten at a time.
Remember when a shape shifter had to shed its skin? Now they can just shift at will with no "leftovers".
Remember how they didn't want to kill demons because they were killing an innocent vessel? Now they don't seem to care about the humans they kill.
There are countless better examples. I just can't think of them right now. The writers and show runners don't care about or respect anything that's happened previously in the series. They come across as ignorant and incompetent as a result and they don't care about that either.
I got about 2 sentences into your moronic manifesto before I got bored and gave up. I guarantee no one clears a room faster than you.
Um....yes I know.....Didn't I make it clear I'm talking about the CHANGES people make to existing sayings?
It really is the reply of the perpetually ignorant. It amazes me how many people say it. It's as if their brains work on a lesser level than normal humans. You hit it on the nose. There's something helpful about bashing a show you're a fan of, when it goes off the rails. It's cathartic. Venting is something everyone does. To reply with the common blurb "then don't watch" is just so incredibly boring. I groan every time I see it. I can't even fathom the point of it. It's as if they want to say something clever, but don't have the intellectual capacity, so they instead say something idiotic. The sad part is they still believe it to be clever.
I hope you're right.
