Lol, thinks we’re still in the 2000’s back when PG-13 action films (not just those belonging to big franchises) dominated the scene and were by and large the only ones that made a killing at the box office it does. Don’t think so, playa. Where u at, J Wick?!
But again lol.... Extraction, though perhaps more violent than your standard action fare (that includes the old school stuff), screams gritty R rated modern action film. Its tone, direction, choreography, performances, VIOLENCE... this film is absolutely of its time. Is it one of the best I’ve seen? The action is unquestionably top-notch, maybe some of the best. But as an overall film... nope, it ain’t. The reason I say this is because I, for one, have actually seen the more interesting, unpredictable, tense, better-developed and expertly-crafted EXCELLENT action films that have come out in the last several years. And yes, you better believe Netflix has no shortage of ultra-violent modern action stuff (from original movies+shows to movies that were released in theaters). So fresh breath of air? Excuse me, but, too easy to figure out you are; seen what’s really out there I doubt it.
It took you back to ‘em good ol’ edgy days? Whoa. I must say, it’s amusing how this feeling is always ‘preached’ by a certain crowd whenever a modern film appeals to said crowd. The real funny thing is, this Hemsworth film makes a lot of those super violent... but really mostly cheesy... 80’s/90’s Van Damme, Seagal, Stallone, Norris, etc. flicks look like, well, the badly-made cheese-fests that they are. Even the likes of Commando (almost any old Arnie flick that isn’t Predator or Terminator) and the beloved Die Hard are hard to take seriously compared to Extraction tone-wise. And to reiterate, as good as the action is, for me Extraction is by no means the best example of a great gritty modern action film.
Bearing that in mind, for all the unoriginal oldhead complaints about how modern action cinema (cinema in general) is unkewl and “clean” compared to a lot of dated as hell 80’s/90’s action flicks, the truth is that is mostly BS. Action movie with lots of blood and guts? Doesn’t automatically mean that that particular movie is better or, yes, even more badass (let alone more mature) than a non-rated R action film. Check this....https://www.nbcnews.com/healthmain/pg-13-movies-are-now-more-violent-r-rated-80s-8C11566223
2 words: BOO YA! :-D “Fake news! But PC! Back in my day!”.... oh please. And let’s not get started with the numerous R rated modern action joints that truly make so much of the old stuff look tame AF.
But yes, the old bombastic era was more hardcore fo’ sho. XD Oh sure, I’m a fan of the classics - especially the quality ones that actually hold up well compared to the regular cringey Stallone, Van Damme, Norris and Seagal crap. XD Still, I’ll HAPPILY take the numerous modern PG-13 films that were legitimately well-made (and far more sophisticated and mature, to boot) over the plethora of hilarious “unsappy” mindless 80’s & 90’s action flicks any day of the week. Yes, and give me the “rare” visceral R rated modern stuff as well!
I get it though. Your crowd thinks a certain way and it shall continue to preach a certain “back in my day” saying. As such... https://i.imgflip.com/3jvrcl.jpg
Well, as with every other 2020 film that’s been pushed back, there’s nothing to do but wait!
As disappointing (and somewhat surprising) as this may be though, at the same time it’s cool to know that this is once again set to come out after Morbius... which means that those MCU Spidey tie-ins are a comin’ indeed! Nah. :D
Anyway, this shall naturally give them more time to work on the film as well.
And I love the title! It seems appropriate :}
That’s right. But maybe they’ll still attempt to explain their absence all this time without needing to go the alternative universe route. Nah, it’s pretty difficult to see that happening (unless they completely reimagine the X-Men).
We’ll see.
Yes, I do belong to the group of fans that are fond of Thor’s portrayal in Endgame. In fact, I love it!
Although I may agree with some people that thought the jokes about his weight became excessive (Rocket’s insults are too funny tho), unlike those fans that were unhappy with his overall portrayal as “Fat Thor”, I took no issue with his turn in Endgame. I mean, this is a guy who lost virtually everyone and everything he cared about, and he of course ended up blaming himself for failing to stop Thanos and save those he loved. Thus, him falling into a deep depression and having him let himself completely go 100% made sense from a character standpoint. This might’ve not been the Thor the majority of fans wanted to see, but... that was the point! What they did with him worked for me in every way. Honestly, he was fun to watch and Hemsworth once again delivered a great performance that gave him the chance to show more of his range.
Now whatever the future has in store for Hemsworth and his character in the MCU, I totally am excited and intrigued to see what comes next. And whether or not he’ll be the future leader of the Avengers, to see Hemsworth as Thor in more future MCU projects would just be great.
I can see this happening quite easily, however is it likely to happen? Well... possibly? But after Endgame, one can safely assume that Thor doesn’t exactly want to be in a position to lead. Though this can change depending on what happens in Love and Thunder; we’ll no doubt have a better idea of what Thor’s future will look like in the MCU then.
Regarding Marvel’s reason for going ahead with a 4th Thor film, I think the main reason is Ragnarok was such a big success critically+financially and it’s a film that reinvented the Thor franchise and Thor himself - and then obvs Thor played a pivotal role in both Infinity War & Endgame (which only made the character a bigger fan-favorite). So with the character becoming more important and compelling than ever before - as well as Hemsworth deciding to stay around - it makes sense that they would give Thor 4 the go. In any event, while I won’t say it’s absolutely going to happen (and won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t), there’s a good chance they’ll make Thor the new leader of The Avengers. He’ll definitely be worthy.
That is a GREAT line. Always stood out to me.
Absolutely Zendaya. I went in a different uncool direction... whoops! ;>
Actually, given that they’re not even supposed to be playing the same character, don’t know how one could have made the better - different - MJ. Zendaya nailed her role as Dunst did (though let’s just say the way they handled Dunst’s MJ later on was very flawed). As such, I like them both equally for different reasons. (Alright, I’m partial to Zendaya’s *arguably* more relatable and interesting MJ, what up?.)
Far and away the best ever in a Bond film and one of the great Roger Deakins’ finest works. It is completely stunning.
And the naysayers up in here aside (yawn), this is a TERRIFIC film overall.
What if North Korea got together and decided to invade the United States during purge night? Would that be allowed too?
North Korea: “Why bother? The Purge is the greatest thing that could have happened to us. Let them destroy themselves! Then it’ll be all ours! Muahahaha!”
But if any of this were to really happen.... yeah, I highly doubt good ol’ ‘Murica will stand for it. ‘Murica always sets limits when something goes awry for it, especially when it involves the others (non-white euros).
A nobody nerd becomes a billionaire it said. So.... Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, etc etc. Notice a pattern here? Ok.
I’m sure many of the *beep* ideas they had would have been laughed at by someone like the OP. And no, a Zuckerberg fan I am not (hell no). But, those like the op clearly jelly AF. Lol
No indeed. No.
The important thing here is: without the hated compassionate kid letting the guy in this would, yes, be quite a different (shorter) movie. The crazies in masks? “We” wouldn’t had gotten this close and personal with their characters if not for the kid... we would simply get a family having a relatively chill night in their seemingly guarded home while the streets are on fire. (Well the crazies could’ve chosen to break into the family’s home just because, though that’d be too convenient/cliche.) Hmm, that maybe would have been worth watching.

Who knows. Not unlikely. Possibly. Nah.
We’ll see.
End of Watch
Ant-Man
Crash
Honorable mentions: Observe and Report, World Trade Center, American Hustle
Nice. While they won’t be filming any time soon, it’s good to finally get some confirmation.
I do wonder if anyone else from the original Jumanji might appear in this next installment.
Well compared to the unarguably understood likes of Green Latern, Superman Returns, X-Men: Origins, Batman v Superman, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Suicide Squad... maybe it is. Lmao.
But it’s been 13 years and this movie hasn’t improved one bit. Though I don’t find it completely unwatchable (it does have some cool moments), ultimately with SM3 both Sony and Raimi dropped the ball. Hopefully Raimi will redeem himself with Multiverse of Madness.
Amusing as hell. And it does make Lane’s capture at the end that much more satisfying, no question. Praise Tom! \^^/
But his character surviving really worked out for the best (and obviously Harri$).
Individuals on the internet (specifically these boards) overreacting over a big franchise movie? No. Freaking. Way.
But some individuals are especially freaking out over this film not because of any production-related issues, but because this film is part of a franchise which the aforementioned individuals feel belongs to them and it hurts their feewings that No Time to Die, like the last few movies, is supposedly going to be too un-regressive for their old-fashioned selves? (I mean, reputedly this last one with Craig is really gonna go the extra mile and not give a single F about regressives’ feewings, haha. Fabulous.) Hard to believe! XD
Now sure, there are those who may have legit reasons to express concern over this film (I don’t think there’s really any big reasons to worry myself, but we’ll see). But these vocal online agenda-driven detractors... they’re all over here whoa... that will (are) endlessly complain about this film no matter what? Yawn, broken records gonna brake.
All I care about, is being there on opening night! The film looks epic ;~}
That would be a very good question to ask Riggan.
Or “bury a friend” (could without that dude’s voice though)
