Saw the film - tons of problems

This film reminds me of the 'starship troopers', because there are so many flaws in it. The difference being, starship troopers knew what it was and made fun of it. This film is serious through and through, making all of the flaws stand out way more than the ones found in ST.

So, let's get down to analyzing the flaws.

Some peeps from the future time traveled into the present to get recruits in order to send them into the future, fight off the aliens and save humanity. The population of humanity in the said future is now 500 thousand. That's less than 0.1 percent of our current population. Logically speaking, rather than trying to send people from today into the future, it would make a whole lot more sense to send whatever remains of the humanity's population into the past and then prepare the whole world for the war to come. That the opposite is being done, makes the whole premise ridiculous at best.

So, I'm at 49 minute mark and the first fight broke out between the aliens and the team. Here is a problem.... our team shoots at an alien for 5 minutes and the alien is fine. Alien shoots once and one of the team's members is gone. How the heck did they figure that a team with what are essentially water guns is going to win against aliens? Shouldn't they develop/equip weapons which are more effective? What about flamethrowers? Lasers? granade launchers? Clearly machine guns are akin to water guns when it comes to the alien threat. Why use them at all? Where is the future tech?

In Starship Troopers, soldiers were taught various strategies on how to fight the alien bugs, they were also informed about the weak points of the bugs. In this film, the team wasn't taught any battle tactics or weak points of the alien bodies prior to being sent off into the future. One dude (who has already been to the future and back) points out to the team the alien weak points only after half of the team had already been wiped out - lol - I kid you not! And let's not forget, Starship Troopers is a sci-fi satire - and yet it has more realism than this film ever did.

The acting.... Chris Pratt did not do a good job (I blame the director - a good director can make even a crappy actor look good). He did odd facial expressions during various scenes. There were moments when he was expected to act serious and he would always fail miserably. (Oddly enough, I must admit, Chris Pratt would have been a great addition to Starship Troopers because that film was part comedy, but this film? They should have gotten someone else.)

All in all, this film was akin to an average netflix production (I know this is Amazon original) - great sfx, good actors (on paper, at least) but horrific/illogical storytelling.

Would I recommend it? If you loved F9: the fast saga, you'll probably love this film. If not, you should probably avoid it.

There was that weird thing about not being able to send people back to the past or to the future if they were still alive at the time. Paradox and what not…

So the daughter for example wouldn’t be able to travel back because she is still alive in the past. But still, yes there are a lot of dumb things going on in the movie, especially in the end with the toxin. But nothing we haven’t seen before in movies like Independence Day or crap like that. Just dumb fun.

I did see the bit about the peeps being screened in order to send them into the future (people who died prior to the big event, I think - and people who didn't have any other children, which is interesting, because not all children are documented as having the right father - lol). I must have missed the bit where people couldn't go back if they were alive in the same time zone - though someone did comment that they must have all been young for a good reason.

Well, if nothing else, it would mean that they could send all the kids back into the past - and a wealth of info regarding the upcoming threat. I suspect that a big portion of the remaining 500K people were kids, anyways.

The mentioned the reverse when noting that all the people from the future were young and thus musn't have been born yet.

I will say it was cool that future humans chose the final of the World Cup to arrive and deliver the message.

Thanks, I'm going to watch Fear Street tonight over this movie.

they we're taught the weak points of the aliens before leaving..

Gun tech may not have advanced hugely but there was definitely an absence of high level weaponry.

I thought the ropes they were using to try and tie up the female alien prior to shoving her in a cage were even more ridiculous.

The caging scene was akin to something people would do in the prehistoric times. It would make sense in the starship troopers - but in this film - lol

guns have a long service life - look at the AK , even the M16 is over 50 now

indeed the ropes looked weak - and later the queen just burst free of those battleship anchor chains in seconds!

The problem with the "gun tech" issue. . .and it's only one of Many. . .is that this film wants us to believe they were able to build a working time machine, but not weapons that could pierce the aliens' hide.

Ridiculous.

But again: the Least of the logic bombs in this movie.
