Yes I have rediscovered my love of moviegoing since the pandemic , the last movie I saw at cinema before this year was Star Wars IX Dec 2019 and before that I saw the movies of that year (Terminator, XMen, Avengers, Once Upon A Time Hollywood, Ad Astra, Glass), same as every year since I started in 81 with Superman II , but didn't go 20/21/22 so missed stuff I would've normally seen at cinema (like Bond, Spiderman, Matrix, Top Gun, Jurassic, Dr Strange, Batman, Elvis, Avatar), which I bought on on dvd or blu but just not the same as seeing them first hand on big screen.
Anyway I finally went back this summer for The Flash even though there was a feeling of 'should i even bother?' after being away so long and gotten used to seeing movies first hand on dvd, but the allure of seeing Keaton back as Batman (and all the potential DC cameos) in a multiverse replay of Man of Steel with him taking on Zod was too great. And sure enough the film was wild and insane and I loved being back, and then I wanted to see Indiana Jones more than ever which was an even bigger deal to me (and similar to summer 2008 and 89 which were Batman/IndianaJones summers) but when I went on a Saturday it was the first weekend of Barbie/Oppenheimer so they cancelled the IndianaJones screening for more Barbie so I had to see Mission Impossible instead, which i hadnt planned on seeing really (I haven't bothered with every MI at cinema - missed 4&6) and wasn't too interested in seeing it on the big screen so probably would've waited for dvd, but I enjoyed it despite the sheer disappointment of not being able to see Indy, and then made sure to see Indy a few days later, and I absolutly loved it even more than The Flash (and just as wild and insane).
So now I'm eager to get back to see something else (so had i not been forced to see MI id have gone to it about now anyway) but idk what yet , I'm not too fussed on seeing Expendables 4 or Aquaman 2 or even Dune II, but don't see much else for me this year (crazy to admit it but id probably go with Expendables out of those!)
yeah I remember the excitement of Keaton coming back as Batman, I just didn't know he was just going to be in The Flash I thought he was going to be the major star of another Batman movie. Or at least a key player. I'm glad that people still go to movies, even though it's not me. I will say if they came out with some really good movies I'd definitely go.
Look at the 52 movies that have grossed 1 Billion or more, I doubt I've seen more then 2 or 3 of them.
Avatar 2 was the first time back for me since Covid, and I plan to see a few more this summer. You really can't beat the theater experience for the big FX movies.
Yes. Definitely. I found a theater that shows movies and has guest speakers and plays to a full house. I’m in an area where there are probably a lot of film people and students so it’s just vibrant. I like the in-person sessions as well. Some really known actors, writers, directors are brought to the stage and discussions are held. They’re stories are fantastic.
The quality of streaming of some series and movies - And they’re popular - is horrible, expensive and forgettable and you realize you’re sliding into sloth. The best tho has become the discovery of international movies and TV never available before to US audiences.
But there is nothing like watching a movie in a theater. I did see this movie. MI in the theater. You have to if you want to appreciate locales and the stunts. A lot of detail to everything. But in the end, it is just lackluster.
Everyone is getting older and heavier and more complacent. The women aren’t. This movie conveniently works into the story the substitution of one female for another. Everything is well crafted. Well scripted. Organized. No money spared and yet it is feels flat. It features Cruises’s amazing stunts. To me, as ambitious as it was, switching the women became the bigger plot trumping the actual mission. Something was missing, for me. I didn’t feel the same as when I watched Ghost Protocol or the first MI. It’s become a one-man show with musical chairs for the female lead. Lackluster is the wrong word. Lusterless. Except, that train scene was spectacular and well worth the price of admission. And this has to be seen on the big screen. I saw Ghost Protocol at the IMAX when it came out and it was one of the best times I ever had at a theater.
I still enjoy going to the movie theater. Fast & Furious 9 was the first movie I saw in a movie theater when they began to re-open, and I saw MI7 at the movie theater on opening day. I don't go as often though as I want anymore since movies have been crappy lately. MI7 was the first movie I saw in theaters since Fast & Furious 10. Ant-Man 3 was before that and then before that was Avatar 2. I can't remember what I saw before Avatar 2, but The Batman comes next. But I know I saw a couple movies between The Batman and Avatar 2. I enjoyed most of the movies I saw in a movie theater since they re-opened.
Once in awhile. Seems 80% of films at the theater are superhero BS. So I don't go often. I suspect we will see maybe 5 to 10 more good years of theaters and they will begin to die off. A shame....
Yes, absolutely I still love going to the movies. There’s just something about making it….an EVENT. The anticipation….the grabbing dinner somewhere first…..the popcorn……the darkened theater……Dolby sound system…..recliner seats…..a cold beer…….but also, the SHARED EXPERIENCE.
It’s a social experience. Think how much of an EVENT it was when Jaws came out during the summer of ‘75. People waited in line together….screamed together….had an evening OUT.
These days, people are so lame, and stay shut in at home for everything. They don’t go to the movies anymore (they watch from their couch). They don’t go to the mall anymore ((they shop from their couch). They don’t go to the record store…or book store…or restaurant. COUCH, COUCH, COUCH. They don’t drive to work or church anymore. (COUCH).
Pretty soon, America will just be a culture of socially inept shut-ins, with pale skin and skinny, ropey little arms.
So yes, I love the movie theater experience….and date night. Bring these things back…..before we all become lame, pasty little hermits….with excellent couches (delivered online from IKEA).
