You know, I miss the days when I could tell you, off the top of my head, how many Star Wars movies there were.

Lucas started it, Disney continued it.

When you put anything ahead of a good story/ characters, whether its selling toys (for return of the Jedi), or woke racial quotas because your test groups showed you would sell 7.25% more tickets if you included an asian woman. the art will suffer.

As for the prequels, its clear Lucas was surrounded by yes men, and put CGI ahead of story telling. No one would tell him no or it was a bad idea. George is a good idea man but a horrible actors director and needed reigning in on his stories. just because he had the good genesis story, doesn't mean he knows how to handle it later, or that other talented people shouldn't contribute with their input.

A New Hope was a massive team effort including Lucas's wife who as editor apparently turned an unwatchable film into the ANH we know today

its why the prequels are trash, yet the clone wars animated tv show he is part of (but not in total control) is so praised. Lucas was able to give idea, but others excited it and reigned him in

Star Wars is fine. Anything made after 1985 is a worth steaming pile.

reply

Whoever thought it was a good idea to hire a couple directors for the sequel trilogy that would actively undermine each other's efforts. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

reply

Since the Lucas prequels ended with one solid feature, and since the Disney sequels ended with a dud, I would say Disney did more harm to the franchise than Lucas.

But then Disney (Favreau and Filoni) lifted it back up and now Star Wars is just as good as ever.

reply

Book of Boba Fett is awful, though.

reply

It had its moments, but Robert Rodriguez is neither Favreau nor Filoni.

Rodriguez asked to make the show, and Disney said yes.

Can you imagine Zemeckis and Gale selling their rights for "Back to the Future" to Disney allowing them to tell their own story? Course no fan would consider that authentic. It would be as authentic as a Gucci bag knock off.
