On a side note, I consider anybody who uses the term "woke" or "SJW" in any capacity--positive or negative--a stone cold moron.

If they're not making an angsty girl power superhero movie for teenage girls, then they're straight up doing it wrong. Making this R was always a mistake.

I don't think woke movies matter too much. It's woke marketing that sinks a film. You can trick an audience into seeing any ol' movie.

Probably just over US$300 mil. It's still a DC movie after all so it would have been crap regardless of wokeness or not - I doubt wokephobes would have gone all in even if they did take all the woke feminut propaganda out, Harley Quinn is still a rather niche character. SS was driven by starpower and riding GotG coattails, Wokey Quinn was about 2 years too late.

It would have made a ton more if it was a non-DCEU movie that wasn't tied to the hip of Jared Leto's godawful "Joker"

That A Harely Quinn Solo Movie in any shape was not the way to go....

Unfortunate, The Problem here lies with timing.


When This film was being greenlit...JOKER had not came out yet.

Once Joker came Out and reality hit the World just what kind of DRAW the character of the Joker actually is....

The Play here SHOULD have been to Go with a Joker/Harley Quinn Movie.

Now believe me when I say, I truly believe I hate Jared Leto's Joker possibly more than anyone on earth...I truly believe it could be this single worst performance of all time....

But There is no Deny Jokers Draw....

Had The timing been right, Had This movie been greenlit just a little later, what shoul have happened was The Moment Joker debuted and WB could have seen just what kind of box office Joker was doing...

The decision would have been easy to make to scrap BOP, Gotham City Sirens or A Harley Solo Movie and go with a Joker/Harley Movie...

It does matter how Hated Leto's Joker was in Suicide Squad....You simply have to MILK the character....

after JOKER, WB right now is dying for a Joker Sequel and are probably discussing any possible way to use the character in future films, IM sure There are talks right now of trying to bring Leto's Joker back in some way to Milk the character.

Had the timing been right....

Had WB been able to go with a Joker/Harely movie...I got to believe it could have been a freaking HOMERUN...

Given the success of Joker, I think WB would have hired top talent to direct and write a potential Joker/Harely movie and I think That probably would have resulted and a much better version/take on Joker from Leto....

Honestly...Its entirely possible had the stars aligned, Had Timing been right, A Potential Joker/Harely Movie that came out around This time next year could have done INSANE box office.


excluding A Joker/Harely Movie....I just dont really see any other scenario where This film succeeds....WB waited too long and all steam and interest the character of Harely Picked up from SS was Lost.

I just dont really see "Harely Quinn" being able to sell and bring in audiences 4 later after SS....again WB waited way too long and Killed any chance for her character alone to bring in audiences....

Joker needed to be The draw, With top level talent behind a potential Joker/Harely Movie....IMO Massive Hit!

Birds of Prey failed for the same reason Rambo Last Blood and Doctor Sleep failed. There wasn't enough interest in it to surpass its lack of drama, story, or comedy, or combination of the three.

You don't generate interest by removing some arbitrary label of "woke" from your film. You generate interest either by making a good movie, or making a sequel to a good movie. Jumanji Next Level kinda sucked, but it was hyped by the previous film which most people liked, so it succeeded. Birds of Prey wasn't good, and it was hyped by Suicide Squad, a film most of its audience did not think was good. Its a recipe for disaster whether its "woke" or not. Sure, maybe PG-13 would've helped, but any success would've been lukewarm at best.

Rated-R movies generally do half as well at the box office. An average of $42 million vs. $82 million for PG and $79 million for PG-13. Older audiences don’t go to most Rated-R films. You’ll find them at an Rated-R Western or War Epic, but certainly not at a superhero movie. Most parents don’t have time to take in Rated-R films on their own. Having your kids go see a G or PG while you go to a Rated-R flick is a pain, finding people to watch the kids to go to the movies has got to be worth it, and it’s so much easier if you’re planning a family night at the movies just to all go see a more family-oriented film. This makes the target audience for Birds of Prey younger, but still adults, without kids who want to see a superhero movie. You have to be offering something very special in order to make that work.

If it was a Batman movie where Harley was a semi-hero for some reason or anti-hero, then it would be a big success.

No one really wants to see a Harley movie where she is out of the DC universe. She is a side character that is a contrast to Batman and Joker. She is even too crazy for Joker and around Batman she is occasionally not so bad.

It would be fun.
