Way too much teen drama

What made this show possible and what made it interesting was Johnny and Daniel, not all the tedious romances and heartbreaks of dopey high school kids. Cobra Kai started flying off the rails about midway through season 2.

reply

Agreed. I am hoping for something big to happen next season like Silver having an affair with Daniels wife

reply

Agreed. I enjoyed the first season. But it gets pretty cheesy as the drama between the kids grows.

I just turned on an episode in season 3 and it's just too much. My nieces really like it, so it must be a matter of taste. It's good they have something to enjoy.

reply

Correct, season one was great because it was about Johnny Lawrence being a loser until he got the idea to start up Cobra Kai. When it turned into stupid teen bullshit with kids joining one dojo and then changing to the other 5 times per season it dropped about 3 rating points. It is still watchable...just.

reply

Season 1 was the best, Season 2 was okay, then it was all teen melodrama and I checked out. In it's defense, the original movies were teen drama, that was the point. It's hasn't failed in original intent, it has just failed to retain my interest.

reply

Such a cheesy and badly-acted show. I dropped it after two episodes of season two.

reply

Totally disagree! Karate Kid should always be about the dopey problems of teenagers. The old school cats are just the framework for new stories about dumb kids.

reply

Correct, but thats also the reason why adults for the most part, don't enjoy the show. Its a kids show. The people who enjoyed the Karate Kid movies in its original run have little interest in this show

reply

I ain't gonna lie, it was a hard transition for me. I had to reconnect with the idea of being a kid again.

reply

It was about the teens back in the day, but the people who saw it back then were young and now they are middle aged and don't want to watch a show about teens crying about going to the fucking prom or whatever.

Solution: Female nudity.

Hard core anal penetration. It's the only answer.

Rubbish. The key hook of this show was following Johnny and Daniel into adulthood and seeing what they've become. In particular, how they deal with middle-age issues and reconcile their glory days. All other aspects of the show are secondary. This is why most fans of the show cite season 1 as the best.

reply

The problem is there was no way to sustain that aspect for 5 seasons. The show is taking the lead of the 4 movies. Each installment gets sillier and more outrageous than the last.

reply

The writers adding a pregnancy just about did it for me. I don't care to see Johnny Lawrence becoming a father again to right a few wrongs. I feel like this was shoehorned in because they're clearly running out of ideas. If this had been the final season, I could possibly tolerate it. But now, this story line is going to insert itself into future seasons which annoys me to no end.

I loved the first three seasons, and even the fourth to an extent. As much as I hate to say it, I hope they wrap it up with the introduction of Hilary Swank's character next season (if it's being planned) and put this show out of its misery before it's too late.

reply

I feel like Season 5 was less focused on the teen characters compared to previous seasons
