Not worth watching

While the setup is creative, the story itself doesn't impress me much. It looked really stupid to me from the commercials, and the younger brother looks like they recycled the horrendously dorky face model Pixar used on that loser from "Ratatouille." And now I'm hearing that they included a minor gay character....in a Disney Pixar children's movie. How nice >:(

I enjoyed the movie...! Too badf the 1960s-70s Dutch-Rock band FOCUS's HOCUS POCUS (released as US single in March 1973 but actually originally on a 1971 LP, MOVING WAVES), as heard in thbe ads and in the recent flick BABY DRIVER, isn't in the films...but enjoyedthe scoring too..by the LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE composer Michael Dynna and brother..drawbridge/imagination scene maybe a favorite since I be a drawbridge freak (try horned, one-eyed.)

This is definitely worth watching. I saw it today and it was great. Beautiful animation and a really interesting story. The voice actors did a good job and the film was entertaining and emotionally satisfying.

Makes me glad I quit watching cartoons 15 years ago. It's all just gone downhill since then.

reply

Tru dat. I wuz so bored and prolly wont watch a toon ever again.

reply

There are some decent cartoons elsewhere. Just because Pixar makes a dud doesn't mean all their work is garbage.

reply

And what's bad about including a minor gay character in a Pixar movie? Children need to learn that homosexuality is actually a part of our world and should be accepted.

reply

They should learn about it when they're old enough to understand sex. Kids being introduced to it at grade school age is not appropriate, particularly when the people who teach about it are partially lying about the lifestyle and what it means, and going behind the backs of parents who object to such material.

reply

Idiot.

reply

YOU'RE the idiot in this discussion.

reply

You started off like you actually saw the movie, but then continue by saying "now I'm hearing they included a minor gay character." If you haven't seen it, how can you have an opinion on it as a whole?

Anyway, homosexuality should be normalized. If your child sees two men or two women in public holding hands, do you intend to cover their eyes? Homosexuality doesn't have anything to do with sex, it has to do with who people are attracted to and there's nothing wrong with that. Kids won't grow up to find it weird if it's something you're not trying to shy them away from.

The movie also featured breaking the law, fleeing from police, and fighting, but for some reason you're okay with children seeing that? God forbid they hear one of the characters just mention that she has a girlfriend.

reply

Tell you what, you mess up your own kids' minds with the toxic propaganda and crap you like to watch; and I'll raise mine to be smarter, mentally healthier, and knowing the truth about all this. Deal?

reply

And exactly what is the truth? Also how is a character remarking that they have a girlfriend propaganda? Most kids won't even notice it. Just to make sure, you are okay with them seeing characters committing crime, evading police, and fighting right? Not that I think it's a big deal, but if someone with your skewed mentality thinks homosexuality being represented with just a remark, you must think those other things are damaging for children too right?

And you didn't watch the movie right?

reply

You are correct here.

Most people are not exposed to homosexuals and only see them in the media. In the media they are portrayed as angels born whole never having had to learn about sex, like all humans do, and they do not show the personalities of homosexuals. They always show buoyant feminine homosexuals that was helpful eunuch types.

Most homosexuals that I have known are very toxic people with a wide variety of very weird beliefs and hatreds.

reply

Honestly completely opposite than the experiences I've had. Maybe it's just where you live.

reply

I have lived in a variety of places.

They all have stereotypical personalities.

Where I live in Philly there's a ton of lesbians, I believe due to the horrible family dynamics here, and they are hilarious on facebook. They all look the same, dress the same, do the same poses, and it's crazy.

Google "lesbian studs" and you will see what I mean.

These women are like a simulation of a really sleazy dude that wants to "pump and dumb" girls. So, they are abusive females who act like abusive males, but say they don't like males, but like females.

Take a kid, if you dare, and explain to them about lesbian studs, while looking at them on the computer. There's memes too.

You would need an advanced degree in psychology.

OP's head would explode if he found out about ParaNorman.

reply

First off, I am female. Second, I know about that one character on "ParaNorman" because you guys gave it away in the discussions on that particular board. And no, my head did not explode. Third, I never had any interest in that cartoon. The animation looked like crap, I have seen stories before where the main character could talk to the dead, and the lumberjack in the bathroom was a big turn-off. I mean, this kid had enough problems talking to the dead and being made fun of at school for it. Did he have to look like he combed gel through his hair while hanging upside down too? Honestly, the plotline did not interest me, and after what I read on that board, I'm glad I never watched it.

Onward mania is already in full swing with Disneyland/Walt Disney World bringing out the Ian and Barley Lightfoot characters with a special meet and greet autograph session to honor the film's release. So Disney expects the movie to do very well in theaters. I do think it looks like an animated sitcom and this is a new type of way that Pixar is trying out with their movies. I also have noticed that the character Ian indeed does look identical to the Ratatouille character Alfredo and they should've designed Ian a whole lot better. What I think will happen if Onward is successful is that there will be sequels like with Toy Story has had. Hopefully Soul is successful too

reply

"Hunchback of Notre Dame" mania was going on the very first time my family visited in June of '96. Doesn't mean it was a great movie. In fact, it was one of Disney's worst films of the 90s "Renaissance," as they call it now.

reply

It was a good movie to be honest. I was pleasantly surprised.

reply

I was very pleasantly surprised,too!

reply

I wasn't convinced in the first half, but the latter sealed the deal.
