reply

Not exactly true. She has flown, glided or managed to be airborne in different ways over timetimes, but a significant number of the iterations of her character are flightless.

Yes, exactly true, lol....Tick the "show" menu to expand the list of "Abilities"

She has been able to fully fly since Post-Crisis on Infinite Earths (in 1985).

reply

Ok, but she's been around since the 40s. Post 1985 is hardly "always" as you stated. There are decades of writing in which her character couldn't fly in any way.

reply

I didn't read anything pre-crisis, but yeah, between 1958-1984 she only had "partial" or "gliding" abilities.

reply

For sure characters go through a lot of changes over the years, and I have no problem with movies taking a little license anyway. I've read a lot of golden age out of respect for what it is, but I honestly don't enjoy it that much. Silver age is really good stuff, and the art makes significant leaps and bounds. Most of what I've read of her post crisis are more team appearances rather than her solo stuff. I actually have the 3 Perez wonder woman omnibuses, but still need to find time to read them.

reply

Those perez runs are among some of my favorites.

I had my favorite SA artists like adams and aparo but the golden age and silver age dialogs were too cringy for me which is mainly why I didn't read them.

reply

The best WW run is by Greg Rucka. Hands down (IMO). The Brian Azarello (of Constantine fame) run is pretty good too. I'd say the John Byrne stuff is worth checking out too. Strangely, two of my favorite comic writers put out some bad WW comics: Walt Simonson and Gail Simmone. Love those two but their WWs were meh.

The WW stuff with Max Lord leading up to Infinite Crisis is very good. That whole era of DC was great (Omac Project, and the limited series "52" no to be confused with "the new 52" travesty).

Perez was a god among artists. Perhaps the best comic book artist ever. However, his WW writing was not my favorite.

reply

Flying is stupid, even for Superman. He should be able to jump really far and high. Same for Wonder Woman and Hulk.

reply

Superman can jump really far and high.

reply

not really, not in superman's way. helped by magic objects and stuff.

reply

She has been able to "fully fly" just like superman since Post-Crisis on Infinite Earths (in 1985)

reply

Wonder Woman, in the comics, has been flying for decades. Her original version could not. And the version that was brought the screen in the 1970s TV series with Lynda Carter could not -- because her comic version at the time couldn't either. But in 1985 DC Comics did a complete reboot to their entire fictional universe and major changes to some characters were made. Superman, for example was significantly depowered -- pre-crisis Superman had become so ludicrously powerful that it seriously impaired the ability of writers to tell compelling, dramatic stories about him; I mean, how do you challenge a character that is practically as powerful as God Himself? (Superman's backstory was changed as well, so that he never was Superboy when he was younger; and the backstories of a lot of other characters were changed or at least tweaked as well -- this was, as I said, a complete reboot of DC continuity.) After Crisis on Infinite Earths Wonder Woman was powered up quite significantly. Pre-crisis, her power level was about on the same level as Captain America in the Marvel cinematic universe: superhuman, with the strength of twenty or thirty men, superhuman agility and toughness, but not invulnerable, can't fly, etc. Post-crisis Wonder Woman was powered up to such a degree that she's probably the 2nd or 3rd hero character behind Superman in terms of strength (Captain Marvel/Shazam and Martian Manhunter probably still come ahead of her), and she's much tougher and more damage resistant than her earlier version, as well as having the ability to fly.

. Dropping this because some ass hat I have on Ignore has posted and I want to see what subsequent posts have to say.

reply

I stopped reading comics before ‘85, yet I still recall Wonder Woman “flying” by “riding the air currents she knows so well.”

In fact, I’m pretty sure she and Superwoman (the Amazon from Earth-3) both had that ability in 1964

Point being, they seemed to be going for that 60’s “riding the wind currents” thing here.

reply

It was great

reply

Classic one doesn't, she started doing that in the comic back in the 80's.

reply

Wonder Woman in the 60s could "glide on air currents" so this movie actually is more true to the original than in the 80s when she gained the ability to fly like Superman.

reply

This WW has Supergirl envy. It would have been cooler if she just swung herself with her lasso and jumped. I don't care that they added flying in the comics. Wonder Woman flying seems wrong, very wrong.

reply

Agree.

She is stronger, faster, etc than humans but still obeys natural laws (most of the time :D ). Flying like Superman doesn't do that.

reply

Steve kinda taught her how

reply

Steve was flying a plane. A plane has something that WW doesn't: propulsion.

reply

she does if she's farting

reply

Mucho tacos ...

reply

LOL

reply

She has propulsion (super powered jumps).
What she doesn't have is lift (like a plane's wings).

reply

I'm surprised you are asking this. Everyone was wondering where the heck her flying powers were in the 2017 movie. So with that, she is known to be able to fly. I wasn't a big Wonder Woman fan before the 2017 movie or even Batman V Superman, but even I knew she could fly. It's almost common knowledge at this point about her. That was actually one of my favorite parts of this new movie. When she started flying, my reaction was "finally!!!" My second reaction was, "well, now everyone can give it a rest on if Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman can fly since she is now flying and 'unlocked'/figured it out."

reply

Yeah I’m very surprised that people are well surprised by her flying. With only the very early comics having her mot being able to fly and that the Wonder Woman comics after crisis have her flying, I’ve always known her to be able to fly. It feels weird it would be like people getting pissed that Superman can fly when in his very early comics he could just leap very very high.

reply

it's an age thing. if you knew WW from the 70's TV show or the original comics version, she never flew (except in her invisible jet). in the 80's they had to make her a match for Superman, so they gave her flight power (and powered him down.)
