Sorry for mentioning this here. It seems particularly redundant given that the OP has deleted their account. But I've seen this type of comment a surprising number of times on this website.
Has a subset of Americans started to use the word 'Hollywood' as a metonym not only for the cinema of the USA -- which, to me, is questionable enough -- but just for cinema in general -- which is, frankly, cretinous? share
Some people do use 'Hollywood' as an all encompassing word for the creative heads of films the world over, as if they're the governing body of cinema as a whole. They do talk like there is a board of directors named 'Hollywood' who dictate everything that happens in every film that's released.
It's not technically correct, but you'll have to get used to people using it in that manner.

It's a whole sub-genre of exploitation filmmaking. Peaked in the 70s/80s (European, mainly Italian) but still has its dedicated followers!
