How woke is this movie?
Well I expect some form of indoctrination as it's a kids movie.
shareWANT AN OTTER POP,KIDDO?🙂
shareIt’s not. It has the female being strong and a bit of a badass (while the males bumble at first). But that trope’s been going on since the 70’s. If you mean modern wokeism - like grooming kids, forced diversity, then there’s none of that. Anything Chris Pratt is in is usually devoid of a lot of that. I thought it was a pretty good movie.
shareOf course it is woke. Bowser is asexual and Bowser Jr. is its kid, and Bowser is the only Jr's parent. But Bowser falls in love with Peach who is a female human, so Bowser is transgender and transpecie. You can see literally thousands of asexual Kapoos telling Bowser it is a bad idea. Then you have the Toads, again literally thousands of them, which are born genderless but they identify with the gender (male of female) they feel more comfortable. Wokeism everywhere. But since no one explicitly talked about it in the movie, then the haters are not hating, probably they didn't even realize it or didn't know the original material.
shareAside from portraying Peach as a little too capable, it’s not really that woke. The line where she said she finished the training course on her first try was cringe, but at least she wasn’t too op like Rey, or a bitch like Captain Marvel.
sharePeach is supposed to be a damsel in the original game, though her character is open to interpretation in various versions. Even so, I don't think Princess Peach is supposed to be a girl boss warrior. As cool as it is, I never saw her as such a determined hero. Still, she's pretty badass in Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.
shareLuigi was “badass” in those games too, and was quite capable in his own games where he had to save everyone. That didn’t stop the writers from turning him into a mansel in distress. Mario is a badass in all the games, yet it took him longer than Peach did to get good in the movie.
With that said, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros are different continuities where many characters act out-of-character in order to make the games possible. Even then, Peach’s fighting style in Smash Bros and certain Mario games was nothing like in the movie.
I think it would've worked better had they kept her original persona. I don't mind that she is powerful. It's pretty logical (not that videogames have to be logical) that she would be strong if she's a ruler of a kingdom. However, in the games, Peach always has a high pitched voice, is graceful and elegant, very timid and shy, and sorry but yes, needs to often be saved by Mario. It's never made clear that she is any better at fighting than Mario or her other counterparts . None of those characteristics made it into the movie, thus I was pretty annoyed about it. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either.

sharePeach also has her own game and has teamed up with Mario in several games and the cartoons as well.
That’s why I really didn’t mind her not being the damsel in distress for the movie, even though I see nothing wrong with a woman needing a man to rescue her.
Well, it wasn't so much that is it was her personality.
shareYeah I’ll agree she was a little condescending and a girl boss, but at least it wasn’t annoying enough (to me anyway) to ruin the movie. Plus her and Mario had good chemistry towards the end.
Seth Rogen otoh, nearly ruined the movie for me.
Sorry I was slightly disoriented typing that....
No no you're right. I've seen much more annoying than that. It wasn't the worst of the "girlboss" trope, that's for sure. I agree they had good chemistry, as they should.
If you have to ask, then yes, it’s gonna be woke.
shareThe "Man=stupid Woman=BeStEST EvAR" trope needs to just go away. It's ruined society. People are so brainwashed they make their life decisions based on what fictional characters would do.
Humanity is doomed.

No surprise that's included. Also Peach is supposed to be a damsel.
shareESG practices at gaming companies literally use Princess Peach and Zelda as examples of how NOT to make their female characters. I think Capcom has a diversity/inclusion guide that leaked, pointing out that they would not be making any characters like that for their future games.
Movies have been doing it for much longer.
Women aren’t allowed to find themselves in any trouble or in any need of saving in movies anymore, otherwise it’s sexist according to the 2020’s rules. It’s the most obnoxious thing happening in films today.
It’s ok to need help or need saved every once in a while. Women (or the people who try to write female characters) apparently take that as an insult, and it has damn near ruined female characters in movies. There is no emotional depth. There are rarely any character arcs, because they are already great at everything. They just bitch that they “don’t need saving” or they “can do it by themselves” for an entire film. Really compelling stuff. 😂

shareUniversal/Illumination/DreamWorks don't go down that road...that's why they are absolutely decimating Disney's animation offerings at the box office. Their Orlando theme parks are even overtaking Disney in attendance!
shareWhy do u hate disney queen?
shareWhat reality do you live in? Anti wokes were blasting this movie for Peach being a bass ass, Mario being under Peach’s wing and Luigi being the damsel in distress. And now, all of a sudden they love this movie because it didn’t bomb after all? What a joke. Mario movie did well because generations of people love Mario and it’s a fun film. Are you so desperate to find a film to fit your narrative that you are conveniently forgetting about that complete 180 turn? Wow.
shareIt's not that people did a sudden 180 turn. Peach is still widely considered the worst part of the movie, they just acknowledged that at least she wasn't quite as bad as she was marketed to be, and the movie itself was still good overall.
