Meh, he doesn't sound Italian and it does sound almost like his voice but to me he sounds like Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy based on that 4 second voice of him (if it IS his voice that is).
He sounds pretty OK to me, but I'm also curious about Ana Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, since Peach wasn't even seen during the trailer, let alone heard.
I kind of like that they're not giving everything away yet, so I guess we'll see.
Yea he sounds just like himself. I don’t understand why he is saying he’s worked so hard on it. To sound like himself? To be fair we haven’t heard much of him yet, so I’m still withholding final judgment.
No Kristen Schaal for Peach's voice. Honestly I never got hyped by famous actors voicing animated movies. They usually took away from the movie. The exceptions being Aladdin, Toy Story and Shrek.
Because he actually typed, "The company has been inconsistent with Mario's portrayal over the years, so a new take doesn't bother me."
If anything, that point shows that Nintendo isn't paying attention to the various portrayals' vocalisations, which suggests cynical disinterest as long as customers are buying it.
I haven't even watched the trailer. I don't know what Pratt sounds like, and if he sucks he sucks. That's personal opinion. I'm not here to defend Pratt.
They had Capt. Lou Albano for the Super Show and he did his take on the mushroom-addicted plumber. Charles Martinet started voicing Mario in the early '90s, before the movie even came out. So now he has the Italian accent and the higher-pitched voice. Did they make him sound like Capt. Lou? No. They didn't care.
Then they got a movie actor for the movie because they wanted bigger names for a movie. Did anybody make sure Bob Hoskins sounded like Martinet? Clearly not? Did they say, "Go back to Capt. Lou?" I doubt it. They let Hoskins do whatever. Then when it was time to put voices into Mario 64, did they make it consistent with the movie? No, they didn't.
Having a favourite is personal taste. You have a good point that it's been the same for a long time and that Martinet's version is well-loved. But you insulted themightyperm for having a different opinion, for having heard multiple takes on Mario, and for not caring which version they're going with, even though that's a reasonable and valid position to take up.
So we’ve had another trailer come out and it sounds like they are going for the Brooklyn accent. It’s all right. I don’t think it’s going to bug me watching the movie. Now it’s Donkey Kong I’m worried about.
I have no real opinion on all of this. I was mostly just here because I was flipping through the site and came across the commenter who was just going full ignoramus by insulting people for having different opinions. I don't know if I'll even watch the movie.
