Thoughts on Chris Pratt's Mario voice?

Meh, he doesn't sound Italian and it does sound almost like his voice but to me he sounds like Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy based on that 4 second voice of him (if it IS his voice that is).

Well, second trailer is out and he still sounds like himself. Considering everything else (animation quality, fidelity to source material compared to the 1990’s cartoons, and other voice actors) has been spot on, I’m willing to overlook Chris Pratt’s voice acting and I know I’ll enjoy the movie. But it’s a miss on a film that seems to hit all of its other targets.

Both Pratt and Ana Taylor are horribly miscast in this and don't sound anything like the characters they're voicing.

Funnily enough, Charlie Day and Jack Black are the two show stealers in the cast.

I liked Anya. As someone who grew up with the SMBSS, SMB3 and SMW cartoons, she sounds almost exactly like the Princess in those animated shows. Chris will just have to do as long as he pulls a Brooklyn accent somewhat in the cartoon.

Not as horrendous as I thought it would be. But why cast a well known actor if they’re going to alter his voice to the point where it isn’t recognizable? Just hire regular cartoon voice talent.

reply

Just bad and flat. These films, I guess, have to have a movie star as their leads to be made. But, if you've heard the Mario voice elsewhere, there is no resemblance. Now, the voice you heard before is WAY over done, but it is what you expect when it comes to Mario.

i'm fine with him, I don't care, but from what I have HEARD so far - and maybe this is common in many animated films - is that is sounds like it is acted lifelessly. standing in a studio, talking into the mic, instead of ACTING it out and feeling it.
just my humble opinion
