I think so. The fact it was so in your face and trying to piss off fans of the original is what made it cringey woke. The director coming out and talking nonsense was the nail in the coffin. Now we've seen that retreaded with Captain Marvel, Terminator, Charlies Angels and so on. The problem aint having female leads, its how you market you're movie and appeal to fans. Look at Alien vs Predator way back in 2004 when it cast a black woman as the lead. No one cared because a big deal wasn't made out of it with over marketing a ''strong powerful female'' and how the AvP series needs to get rid of toxic masculinity. Or silly articles like ''move over Arnie, its time for a woman to beat the monsters''
shareYes female lead stuff like Terminator 1/2, Alien 1-4, and even crap like the Diaz CharliesAngels, Res Evil and Underworld and the AvPs were NEVER about the stuff that's going on now in light of the woke/metoo/toxic men/female empowering stuff .. it just was not there. At all.
So it must have been GB2016, then you had the whole metoo thing which led to stuff like Charlies Angels reboot, Birds of Prey etc and seeping into stuff like Star Wars, MiB, Xmen and Terminator DF sort of sign posting how woke the Terminator franchise is (where before it wasn't an issue Sarah was just a bad ass no explanation needed) and of course the interviews promotion of all those movies centred around how 'woke' they are which is a turn off for most audiences
Around 2016 it went into the stratosphere but now it's on Mars.

Movies rebooted with non-white characters is a whole another stratosphere. Not sure I want to get into that. :)
Annie is intended for general audiences with a diverse lead, not a black remake like Honeymooners intended for Afam audiences , touchy subject

For me GB2016 is the first one that went full woke. Its just interesting that studios would alienate half your market.
I dont see the problem with diversity i feel these days and i can a root for a variety character types not the just White Male who gets the girl
shareI think most people would have a problem with it. But it's the way it's done today. It's no longer organic. Its right in your face and too obvious. The girl power scene, in Avengers Endgame for example. That was so cringe worthy or how about the opening scene in The Last Jedi....???

Yeah, it depends upon what the meaning of the word 'is' is.
shareBottom line, this movie flopped because its core audience couldn't identify with the characters. Young white female quasi terminator. Hispanic male terminator. Female hispanic heroin. Old white lady that was never meant to carry the franchise. Don't see these demographics showing up in droves to go see a terminator movie. Like it or not, a recipe for failure.

yeh DF was primed as 'the return of SConner' like shes the Ripley of the franchise .. i mean she is but not on the level Sigourney Weaver was/is to the Alien franchise (where shes the big name star associated with the series like Arnold is with Terminator & Predator) .. its Arnold as the Terminator who is the title star like the way the Alien or the Predator is the main attraction of their respective franchises share

White males between the age of 16 and 40. If you don't play toward this demographic for a terminator movie, good luck making money.
shareyeh i think had they made DF for 'the terminator audience' (white males 16-60s) and had it been a substantial improvement over TG then it probably could done what the studios were expecting ($500m ww like T2 - unadjusted of course. TG made 450m and that was deemed a bad movie) So going 'woke' probably slashed half the box office
shareI remember a lot of backlash over how women were portrayed as objects of male fantasy after that 2016's Passengers (with Pratt and J.Law). That wasn't the start of the Woke craze, but it came along right after that. That was the first time I recall them saying they were going to start making active changes how movies were made.
We were talking about Alien on here and I realized it was woke.
I also used to be an avid reading. I still read a lot of factual stuff but I used to love science fiction and fantasy. However, I stopped because nearly all novels went woke in the early 2000s.
It has to be a media conspiracy because there is no way all creative people are suddenly going to start writing the same thing. Writers like to write what they know, so they aren't going to be creating female characters all at once. I stopped reading because all the books that appeared good had female characters. I like a character I can relate to and don't like how males write females as they are just males in personality.
It has to be either a government conspiracy or some business group.
Everyone tries to pin the woke label on the Alien movies but there's some differences in that those movies were actually good. Also the male characters outside of the villains were not stupid or assholes.
