So...Is This the "Last One"?

Has the Warners Brothers "Monsterverse" with its apex monsters run its course?

Or are they making some more of these movies?

I dunno...

As for what a sequel could include, Wingard does not say. However, after GamesRadar+ suggests that a Mecha Kong movie could be a potential sequel, he replies: "I love King Kong Escapes [the 1967 movie that saw Kong facedown Mechani-Kong]. I love those Showa era movies, so obviously that'd be a fun one."

reply

I was thinking of that possibility myself after watching the movie last night. I'd love to see a Monsterverse take on King Kong Escapes.

I cant imagine WB NOT going forward with a sequel to this film after the success it appears to be having...

Yes had you asked me 2 weeks ago...I would have figured this would be the end on the "Monster-Verse"

But GvK seems to over performing in every way imaginable and There is clear improvements here with this film that WB could definitely look at as a Path to move forward.

first GvK has drastically Over performed overseas at the box office...The numbers overseas are incredibly strong especially during a pandemic

so far GvK's domestic Box office is Shocking!...it appears to be on pace to top Godzilla 2's OW despite opening during a pandemic and while being released on HBO Max.

If GvK does open between 40 to 50 Million this weekend...That would highly suggest that GvK could have easily opened to 100 to 125 Million + during a Normal summer Blockbuster release without a pandemic or HBO Max Release, WB has to believe a sequel in 2023 to 2024 could open over 100 M+ under normal circumstances.

and Lastly, Word of Mouth and the reception to the film seems to overwhelmingly positive, Not close to The usual response to The Godzilla films in 2014 and 2019....

the Majority here with GvK seem to think the movie and story overall is weak but The Action and fight scenes are incredible and The Movie delivers exactly what you would expect with a title "Godzilla V Kong"....simply put, They nailed The Action and Monsters in this movie about as Great as you possibly could and audiences are leaving the film satisfied and happy...something that can not be said about previous monster-verse movies

Overall, This film is going to over succeed during a Pandemic, Its going to have excellent WOM and WB is going to come away with the belief a sequel could do great after this...

I 100% expect a Sequel to be announced....Most likely a "Team UP" sequel....Instead this time its Godzilla and Kong Vs "Bad Guy"

Bad guy? Some Alien Godzila would be nice :D

Can you imagine Godzilla vs. Gigan or Megalon, but with these modern effects? Jet Jaguar would be dope, and it's high time Anguirus showed up!

reply

What you say is true, but the bottom line is it's up to Toho Ltd. If they decide to re-up on the licensing deal, then it's probable. However, they have their own Godzilla movies in the pipeline, so nobody knows yet.

One thing's for sure: the success of these films means we'll Definitely see more Godzilla flicks in the coming years. . .

reply

Hope they keep going. I'd love to see a version of Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster with the kind of effects seen in the Monsterverse.

reply

They need to fight the Power Rangers and Kinnikuman

reply

No damn way they'll stop. This stuff is successful.

reply

It's been very enjoyable

Fingers crossed they continue

Narratively, there should be one more movie made where we see our Titan defenders actually protect Earth from some threat. All we've done so far is establish our heroes and put the team together.

I read an article the other day where the director said nothing else was planned right now and it depends on how well this one does.

My college professor told me that the next film will be a Godzilla/Kong team up against Mecha Godzilla/Mecha Kong.

^^

I see this as almost impossible considering Mecha Godzilla was just done in GvK and was Destroyed.

I find it extremely unlikely They would do the same Villain again...

Mecha Kong is possible, But again I find it very unlikely Given Mecha Godzilla was just done in GvK

I absolutely think The Sequel will be a Team Up...and Will Be titled Godzilla and Kong Vs "Bad Guy"(whomever it is)

but I dont see them going with The same Villain again or a Mecha Kong which would be too similar to GvK

I expect The Sequel to be Godzilla and Kong Vs A New Villain/Monster or Monsters

reply

Well Megalon is from Hollow Earth which was called Seatopia in one of the 70s Godzilla films. So maybe Megalon lives down there. He teamed up with Gigan also in that same movie. Maybe thats the sequel
