What was they thinking with the casting of Elvis?

Guy looks NOTHING like Elvis, at all. You would think the main priority or at least one of them would be casting someone who looks like Elvis, and they didn't even try. They just casted this guy and put a wig on him and put him in the clothes and thought that would be enough, even though facially the guy doesn't resemble Elvis in the least. Looks like some schlub they found in Vegas doing an Elvis cosplay.

That just takes me out of the movie when you got someone who is CLEARLY not Elvis and doesn't even resemble him, i can't suspend my disbelieve for a second thinking that guy is Elvis.

I dunno if anyone here has seen Pam and Tommy, but Lily James who looks nothing like Pam Anderson irl was transformed in that show and looks JUST like Pamela Anderson, its almost freaky. Why could they not put that kind of effort into Elvis?

All the technology we got now, deepfakes, and world class prosthetics/makeup and they didn't even fucking try with Elvis, just casted a guy who looks nothing like him and did nothing to even try and make him look like him. Such a fucking shame.

I am surprised a Black wasn’t chosen to play Elvis. They’re changing other charactors from White to Black. Perry White in Superman, Cinderella, James West in The Wild, Wild West. And of course Jesus who was neither White or Black.There are more, but I’ve made my point. I’m curious about what would occur if a White was cast to play The Black Panther.

As I got older and wiser, I realized how silly it was to cast Whites as American Indians! Nothing like seeing a blue-eyed with dark makeup White portraying an Indian!

To end this with a laugh…John Wayne as Genghis Kahn? 😅😂🤣

To this I’m shocked! Why in the hell would they cast a Black to portray a White woman of factual history? 🙇🏼‍♀️

There would be outcries and possible riots if a White person was cast to portray one of the following: Martin Luther King, George Washington Carver, Obama, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Thurgood Marshall, Jesse Owens, and so many more.

This is getting out of hand! It doesn’t bode well for race relations.

For several years now, Broadway theater has been "color blind" along with most of the entertainment industry. Personally, I DO NOT LIKE IT when people of color are cast in a role of a white person who has actually lived or is still alive. That is ludicrous to me.

Same thing for iconic characters that are not real people, past or present. Casting a black kid in the Live TV version of "Annie" is another example of what I call "ludicrous". There is no need to take that iconic cartoon character with red hair and freckles and cast a black kid in the role. NOPE, I'm never going to buy that type of casting just so they check off that damn diversity box.

I saw Elvis live in person on stage four times......twice in Las Vegas and twice on Long Island in the Nassau Coliseum when he was on tour. Austin Butler did a damn good job of capturing the essence of Elvis. His movements on stage were spot on. His speech pattern and tone of his voice were spot on. In make up and wigs, he looked enough like Elvis that I was able to immerse myself in the experience. The live stage scenes were so awesome, they took my breath away.

I have no idea if he's going to work in the role, but I did like what I saw in the trailer... there was a bit where he got the body language right. The young, raw, Elves wasn't a dancer and didn't move like one, he moved like an awkward white guy who was bursting with energy that he could only express by bouncing nervously and flailing around to the music. Butler got that right.

He may have a similar mouth but the difference between their eyes and noses are jarring, not even close at all.

I think the eyes are kind of similar, and the nose was probably more similar before Butler had that nose job, but IMHO... it's the jaw that's the biggest point of difference. Elvis had a good strong jaw, this guy has a delicate jaw and a weaker chin.

They really should have thought about a subtle facial prosthetic there.

Butler had a nose job? I didn't know. Agree about the subtle facial prosthetic to give him a stonger chin like Elvis. A prosthetic nose would have been a good idea too. Having said that, I still thoroughly enjoyed Butler's performance as Elvis as he captured the core of the man.

a stickler for language and respect you enough to suggestb a better turn of phrase to you. I saw “earned” like “an earned honor.” Elvis Aaron Presley was the first and only King of Rock n’ Roll and got his crown in the 50s, before you were your daddy’s sperm.

I understand that you are too young to understand the magnitude of Elvis’ impact on the Baby Boom. He and Marilyn Monroe were the 2 superstars of the 50s. Period.

There are times when “good
enough” is just not “good enough.”
