This is good horror?

Oh hey hun why aren't you in bed? Oh couldn't sleep. I couldn't get this image of this demonic nun out of my head so I thought I'd paint it...

As you do.

I think he goes even as far as saying "I'm no picasso but it's not that bad!' Jesus. Wtf.

I couldn't stop laughing.

Seriously, I feel like James Wan got lucky with Saw. Everything else he's done is mediocre.

How is this a good film? I don't get it. I feel as though there is something wrong with me. I really miss horror. I wish I could recapture those moments of fear and curiousity I had as a teen discovering truly great horror films. I suppose I'm desensitised. But seriously, this film is terrible. It's just jump scares one after the other.

This movie is far better than any other horror movie you usually see these days in theater because it is so very well written/directed that it keeps you captivated all the time (in a bad way but thats what we want and love). James Wan does this perfectly he has proven himself as the master of horror. This is the real horror my friend.

The last movie to scare me was Child's Play...I was 12 when it was released and scared the hell out of me...this was garbage and I blame it all on the stupid accents...

Saw was a pretty *beep* movie. The acting was so bad. People need jobs though. Even the guy who played the boyfriend in liar liar. Carey Ewes. He was also in a princess bride.

Or maybe hollywood should learn how to budget. Horror is what one would call "being in the rebuilding stages."

Horror is just an easy way for crappy people to get jobs they don't deserve. Anyone can act in a horror movie when you have too many out in a year. Horror isn't going to sell that way. I should be so scared that I don't want to watch another horror movie for at least five years.

None of the so called horror movies that come out these days, even the ones with good reviews tend to scare me. Conjuring didn't do it for me. Neither did this one. What I like about the conjuring movies are that the characters are well written and well acted. I thought both Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga have really good chemistry. I found myself to genuinely care about them although I know that neither of them are in any peril since Ed only died aged 79 in 2006 and Lorraine is still alive. I like the high production values and the creepy ambience that most of the scenes exude.

In this film I found the ghost nun to be very creepy and unnerving. However, the old man ghost with the yellow eyes and the crooked man was ridiculously comical that I couldn't help but laugh a little. I think this film belongs in the thriller/suspense/drama genre more than the horror genre to be honest.

Yes.
This isn't "good horror", these are bland, uninspired, by the book haunted house/family horror movies and, at that, they are somewhat decent. Acting performances, directing, production value: it's all good and pretty well crafted, but the material (story, plot, characters, dialogue etc.) is flat and the only trick to keep audience interested relies on tense music/loud volume-jump scares-quick editing.

Still, there are great horror movies out there, you just have to look for them :-)

You're supposed to laugh. That line is meant to be funny. I think the filmmakers are deliberately including a bit of ironic humor, sometimes verging dangerously close to camp, because they know that the Warrens probably seem somewhat anachronistic and laughable to many contemporary viewers.

To my mind, that makes the film more interesting; they acknowledge that such beliefs can be kind of silly, so we have let our guard down when the scary bits come. Should we take these people seriously or poke fun at them? These movies find room for both attitudes simultaneously, which adds a dimension of human vulnerability that makes the horror more effective.

This is not the greatest horror ever, but it is pretty good. Like all good horror films, it focuses more on the characters and their emotions than on the spooks, although the latter are (mostly) satisfyingly scary. (The CGI Crooked Man feels out of place, as if from a different movie.) The horror emerges from the fears and conflicts of the characters. I guess it depends on whether the viewer likes or sympathizes with Lorraine, Ed, and Janet. I did, so I found the story involving.

The movie was too "trying hard" to scare the audience. Disappointed with this one.

My opinion does not really matter.
