Unless the movie starts off with Luke meeting Rey for the first time on that island, it's nothing more than the beginning of a 1 1/2 year marketing campaign.

JJ will spend the next 1 1/2 years hyping this turd to get the old fans that they've been insulting for months to see it.

I don't believe JJ wrote anything since he had no intention of the doing the last two movies and Johnson already said Abrams wouldn't give him any guidance nor information when he asked him re: the storyline.

Don't believe their many lies.

It's a reminder than sites like IndieWire are blogs. And the whole point is to bait you into reading their blog posts, er, I mean, "articles."

Now, Variety, Los Angeles Times Entertainment section, etc. are all blogs. They hire blog writers instead of actual journalists, and you can't take their "articles" as anything more than blog posts.

JJ is the executive producer of the entire trilogy, and always has been. He is the person who got this trilogy rolling.

Also, your description of of your second link is a lie. Even the headline contradicts the article. I've gone over that one before. He said nothing like what is suggested in the headline.

Go ahead and quote him insulting fans and saying Star Wars fans are anti-female. TRY to find that quote in the article. Try to find an implication of that in the article.

You won't find it, because the article itself is a lie. It's a clickbait headline unrelated to the article content.

JJ wrote the first movie with two other writers. He had no writing credits for ep. 7 nor Trevorrow's ep 9. JJ also has a history of not having a completed story in mind like he admitted with "Lost".

Sometimes an ex. prod. or prod. title is an excuse for someone to get a paycheck or larger paycheck like with Stan Lee and a few actors w/double credits.

I notice that Kiri Hart is a "producer" even though she's supposed to be head of the story group. Her job is continuity. Meanwhile Last Jedi had no continuity.

BTW, it doesn't bode well if JJ had an active role with Last Jedi since the movie was crap.

Johnson was specific in an Vanity Fair interview as to who helped him with Last Jedi and it wasn't JJ at all.

"Asked by IndieWire about pushback from “Star Wars” fans who decried Rian Johnson’s film for its focus on more female-centric stories (bolstered by the edition of franchise newbies like Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran), Abrams was clear: “Their problem isn’t ‘Star Wars,’ their problem is being threatened.”"

"being threatened" aka: anti-female. They were talking about a specific group though - not in general.

I don't think it's a black or white issue. There are racist & sexist fans AND Last Jedi was crap.

The R2D2 thing is soooo obvious. He is force sensible, so when Rey comes around with her huge force R2D2 senses it and turns himself on.

And Rey is a Skywalker afterall.
I don´t really get why all people believe Kylo Ren about what he said about Reys parents.
He wanted her to ally him, with her thinking she is a skywalker he knew she would never do it, so he brought up this lie.
Such an obvious bait, and all the fanboys bought it and started flaming haha.

You know a movie is crap when a fan needs to write the movie for them in order for it to make sense. At no point in SW's 40+ year history does it say anywhere that R2D2 is force sensitive.

Rey is NOT a Skywalker unless it's in the movie - which it's not. Luke nor Leia knew her.

Why would Rey want to be an ally of someone evil or change him to good. That makes no sense. It made sense in the OT because Luke found out Vader was his father. Rey and Kylo are strangers.

Let's face it, SW is being handled by incompetents who know nothing about the story or how to write. Johnson wrote incorrectly about the balance of the force as well as how a Jedi is trained while the Lucasfilm story consultants didn't correct any of the errors.

They should be cousins, but Lucasfilm idiots don't know how to write a competent script. If they were cousins, Luke, Leia and Han would've recognized Rey. I think they want Rey and Kylo to fall in love, marry and have a kid. It's offensive that Rey would be attracted to an evil psycho who tortured her.

You didn’t think Han & Leia recognized Rey in The Force Awakens? I thought that was fairly obvious.

When the Falcon first lands outside of Maz’s castle and Rey says she didn’t know there was this much green (trees, leaves, grass) in the whole galaxy, Han’s reaction says much more than simply, “Growing up in the dessert stinks.”

When Maz asks him, “Who’s the girl?” The movie cuts to the next scene and we don’t know what Han said. Clearly we are meant to assume he didn’t say, “Some scavenger who was flying the Falcon.”

Leia immediately ran to Rey to give her a hug when Han died. Clearly she felt connected to Rey. Strange if she didn’t recognize her.

Ryan Johnson appearing to take the story in a different direction does not negate the fact that Han & Leia definitely recognized Rey. I wouldn't take Kylo Ren's words at face value. He said her parents were nobodies, but until it's confirmed in Episode IX, we don't know what the truth is.

I thought the same as you did when I saw Force Awakens. That movie had plenty of promise. Unfortunately, Johnson ruined that story by not following up in Last Jedi by having Luke or Leia know her. I'm completely discounting what Kylo said since villains lie.

It speaks volumes when the director who cared about the Luke character and the integrity of SW lore was fired by Kennedy.

At this point, the story-telling is a mess and I could care less about what they do with any future SW movie since I don't consider anything they do to be canon.

I'll borrow the future SW movies from the library to watch the train wreck out of curiosity, but Disney has lost me as a paying customer.

actually friend, the filmmaker explained why R2 woke up: basically because it was convenient (BB8 woke him and he just got out of coma later). It's called deus ex machina writing, it was not related to Marey Sue here. These films are just remarkably badly written.

Also, R2 is not Force sensitive. First, it's against lore, with midichlorians/living cells/living Force and all. And second Force sensitivity was never even indicated with R2 in all the movies and shows before.

I would kindly ask you to do research and think things through before you tyoe. Unless you troll in which case I urge you to improve upon your trolling.

Nothing important happened in the second movie that need be acknowledged. Hell, this way we can even imagine that Rey spent years training with Luke on that island. Snoke will have disappeared but he was only ever a hologram for ten seconds anyhow. Vague non-answers were given to mysteries. Nothing to contradict there. That's about it. I guarantee you'll be able to watch JJ's films back to back as a seamless whole.

EXACTLY! This is the first thing I noticed too! If only we could forget "The Last Jedi." Johnson just wanted to lay waste to as much of "Star Wars" as possible with that thing.

Hopefully, Abrams can retcon the whole thing and fix it. I wasn't jumping up and down when Abrams was announced to return, since I thought "Force Awakens" was quite underwhelming. But, he's probably the only person who can fix "IX."

Look, I think some of you guys are reading too much into this. TLJ happened, Snoke and Luke are gone, and the Rebellion is down to a sad little nubbin. Those are the big changes in TLJ, and like it or not, they can't be undone. (Well, except maybe Snoke, because for all we know he can reincarnate, but if he doesn't I won't miss him.)

It's obvious to me that Disney, Lucasarts (Abrams, Kennedy, story consultants) were happy with Rian Johnson or he could've been fired or had his script changed. I think everyone wants to blame only Johnson, but he had approval in order to move forward with his bad script.

Abrams didn't fight to keep Luke alive when Trevorrow wanted to use him in EP 9. He also didn't have the old gang, Luke, Leia and Han together like they should have been in Ep 7. JJ is part of the problem in destroying the lore of the original characters. Adding a throwaway snippet scene from Ep 7 with Luke & Leia is just a marketing ploy. Notice how they haven't invited Mark Hamill to come back to resume his role.
