Did anyone hate TFA but like TLJ?
There seems to be a lot of folks who liked both, hated both or liked TFA but hated TLJ, but I don’t recall seeing any TLJ fans among those who disliked TFA.

shareI hate TFA AND TLJ. I suppose I just don't care for the Skywalker story after ROTJ. However, I loved Rogue One as it was set in the OT period, and that, combined with the Death Star (my favourite thing in Star Wars) and Vader finally kicking ass against the Rebels, was a real SW orgasm.
I don't really understand the dislike of Rogue One. It struck me as in the top 3 SW films of all time, and a great standalone movie in itself. The story was cohesive, and the writing was subtle and emotional without being corny. Acting was good enough. The setting felt very realistic, modeled after real wars, and the twists and turns were satisfying. There were seriously difficult decisions made and real bitter sweet sacrifices. Overall it felt like it was really a star wars film rather than a cheap imitation like the new trilogy. I was enjoying it thoroughly even before the final act, which stepped it up even further and blew me away.
Watching it AFTER TFA and TLJ I made a realization. The main trilogy is for children and marketing, and the anthology series is a bone thrown to old-school fans and adults. We will find out if this theory is true based on how Solo turns out.
Would be amazing if Gareth Edwards were allowed to direct a main trilogy movie. Won't happen though.
I rate them both the same. TFA was a better made movie, but suffers for being unoriginal. What TLJ makes up for in originality, it loses by jarringly inappropriate comedy, bad pacing, and a wandering script.
I wouldn't say either is a great or terrible. They're just OK.
I rate R1 the same, but I think I may like it a little more.
I'm going to re-watch the series when TLJ is out on Blu-Ray and I'll see how I feel then.
Ive seen a few posts of people that liked TLJ and hated TFA. Main argument is that atleast its different than the other SW story tropes. But that argument just falls flat to me, because the Prequels also were different and those same people hated them aswell.
I for one loved TFA even though it was unoriginal. I would have forgiven TFA if TLJ was amazing and paid off everything. And with Episode 9 being even better and original. Sadly TLJ killed SW and I dont care for episode 9 now.
Rogue One however was amazing. I also love Revenge of the Sith, its my fav episode. the Original Trilogy is just amazing aswell so. Im not a hater. Only TPM sucked for me (except dual of the fates). the only movie I truly hate and just want to destroy, is TLJ.
I didn't like either TFA or TLJ but I hated them for different reasons
- I didn't like TFA because the characters were bland and obnoxious, the acting was horrifically bad and the plot was a complete rehash of ANH. It didn't do anything original.
- TLJ on the other hand had really good acting and John Williams was back on his A-game, also while it did have call backs to the previous films (which I have no problem with) it did not recycle the plot of ESB as so many people were predicting. However the plot, the characters motivations and the story are a complete mess.
I liked TFA a little more, even though it was basically A New Hope. But I also didn't think this was godawful even though I do admit there were some big errors in judgement and interesting things from TFA that I felt were just thrown away here.
I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. Review is right here- https://youtu.be/nerCnafPUm8
I ALMOST count lol, i hate TFA but was mixed about TLJ.
shareI would like to point out that most people were/are upset with TFA because it resembled A New Hope. This was purposefully done. Lucas gave Disney his outline along with offering his service as a creative consultant and the told him directly that the first movie is going to be what they called a retro movie.
If you can look past that TFA is a pretty amazing movie and Kasdan did a great job helping out with the script. I also really enjoyed JJ's direction the slow paced opening act meeting BB-8 and Rey I thought was done really well. All the scenes with the Falcon were great I would even say the scene on Jakku was ground breaking it's beautiful to watch and the way the filmed it made the ship feel real that somebody was actually piloting it. Harrison Ford actually showed up and gave us the Han Solo we have missed since the OT. I could list the good stuff in TFA forever.
TLJ is a complete mess you could list it's problems forever.
Disliked TFA. Absolutely hated TLJ. Loved R1.
