Am I the only person that loved this movie?

Seriously, I thought it was great. Who cares if it's not realistic, who cares if it has a couple little plot holes here and there? It's an amazing movie with a tremendous use of visual effects. What's with people these days immediately hating a movie just because the movie portrays a sequence of events that are unlikely to happen? I swear you must all be a boring bunch of people. I see comments like "What a piece of *beep* that could never happen!" and I'm just like... that's the point. If people only filmed *beep* that's going to happen we wouldn't have half the great movies we have today.

I had an awesome argument prepared when I started this subject, but forgot it before I started typing :/. You get the point though.

I saw it at the cinema and I found it OK (7/10).
It's just a good popcorn film with lots of shootings and explosions etc.

Just watched this film and thought it was a great time filler.
Like has been already stated by just about everyone, it aint Shakspear or even Britney Spear, but it sure is fun.
Only one thing. I can't be the only person in the world that is sick of hearing that American cliche 'God bless America' in a presidents speech. I'm sure Americans are sick of hearing it by now as well.
I know there are some out there that would vote for the most racial, homophobic, sexist arse, history has ever known if he ended his speech with this line but, for the rest of us, just give it a break.

Why do people say this was Die Hard in the White House? While both movies had a lot of action and violence, Die Hard was fun to watch. Olympus had some decent action sequences, but I think they overdid it with the graphic violence, and the "hero" was humorless.

I think they could have made a better escapist movie if the writers and director didn't take the scenario so seriously. Yeah, it's "just a movie" but the story can't be so fanciful to be completely unbelievable. It wasn't a sci-fi movie and it wasn't supposed to be a fantasy. There should have been more of an attempt to at least be somewhat believable. Stretch reality a bit for the movie, but don't blow reality completely out of the water. If you're going to do that, then acknowledge it by tossing in a bit of humor along with the action. There are plenty of good and great action movies that combine action with humor.

Another point: It wasn't just a couple little plot holes here and there. The central story elements were way out there. It's almost cartoonish to think that an unidentified plane is going to be able to fly up the Chesapeake like that. Then to have the U.S. be able to back off from the Korean border almost instantaneously is ridiculous, as though the writers were playing "Risk" or something.

Again, there's nothing wrong with altering reality for a movie, but if you're asking the audience to suspend disbelief that much, you shouldn't have such an unrelentingly serious tone throughout.

I see what you're saying, but you are wrong in stating that as a plot hole. You were right when you said it was "out there," though. It certainly wasn't a gap or inconsistency within the story. Plot holes have to be relative to the film itself.

Yeah much better :)

So I guess Lord of the Rings, Avater, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Terminator, Anything Marvel/DC, Anything Disney, Back to the Future trilogy, Any of the great anime films (Spirited Away/Princess Mononoke), Jurassic Park(s), Ghostbusters, The Hunger Games, Star Trek's are all out for you? (Just to name some of the 'bigger' unrealistic film's) - If you think about probably 90 - 95% of films are unrealistic.

Unfortunately for you, you made the silly mistake that just because something is unrealistic it must be bad/boring. However, true movie fans, like myself, know deep down that they have many favourites that could be classed in the *unrealistic* 'genre'.

just watched it for the first time, watched on blu ray,yes its far fetched but entertainingly far fetched. Nowhere near the 'Die Hard' calibre but thats OK, Die Hard is one of the best, 9/10 from me on Imdb, I gave this 7.
The dodgiest thing in this movie (and I think he's great by the way) is Gerard Butlers American accent, though better than Connery ever did.
To think in the day the likes of Errol Flynn, Claude Raines, Ray Milland etc got away with just being who they were.

I love this movie simply because i hate the US and all it stands for... Greed, corruption and warmongering.

I have a lot of friends living in the states who themselves are sick'n tired of their country
and their government, and equally angry to see what their country has become.

To quote one of my friends

Americans are afraid of their own shadow
.
And it couldn't be more correct. It's a nation built on fear, ignorance and hate.

Just finished watching this movie and I did find a bit predictable in places but that's what I love about the movies, escapism from the real world so I didn't overanalyse it too much. I have to admit though, the hairs on the back of my neck were standing right up when Olympus was getting taken down, the bloodshed was a lot more dramatic than I thought it would be.

@Regsaville, I thought Gerard Butler was great in this role and I have to admit (I am Scottish) so I notice a lot of the time when his accent slips but didn't notice it as much in this role as in other roles, I watched Butterfly On A Wheel during the week and with Pierce Brosnan playing a Northern Irish man and Gerard playing an American you could clearly tell when Gerard went a bit "Paisley" lol, so one of his better "Playing an American roles"

You know me, I'm not one to gossip but you'll never guess what I heard...

Yet compared to the alternative countries that could be the world super-power, it's a shining example of freedom and democracy. Context is everything.

I just watched it today for the first time and I liked it and was entertained. It is true some people just can't be entertained and want to call something garbage because they didn't like it. Oh well their loss

You're not the only one, TimR: Just watched it again today and it's even better on a third viewing. Yes, it doesn't take itself too seriously and knows it borrows from Die Hard. Makes me wonder why Antoine wasn't asked to direct DH5 instead of the mess it became (PG-13, really??)

I am rewatching the movie again.
