It IS pretty absurd with the title of this film to have a guy on the cover.

It's embarrassing to have a man define womanhood. I haven't seen this so I can't discuss the content fairly, but as a man, this just makes me uncomfortable.

It kind of underlines a problem with men who are under some impression that they get to speak for women.

Again, not saying that is what the film is about, just discussing the issues with the cover that I can see people legitimately having.

You should have watched it first. The title of the documentary has a question mark at the end. He's ASKING others to define it for him.

I kinda see what you're saying about having a guy on the poster when not put into context, though.

reply

It's a man's journey to discover what a woman even is. A (real) woman wouldn't have to find out what a woman is.

reply

This is what makes you uncomfortable?

It kind of underlines a problem with men who are under some impression that they are women.

There, I fixed it for you.

reply

I can't speak for the film itself, but it's pretty typical for female-titled films to have a man on the cover, like Her (2013) and The Woman in Black (2012). Otherwise, when a woman does feature on the poster, it's usually an obscured woman or part of her face, or a woman sharing the poster with others, sometimes other women but just as often other men - and the men often take the focus while the woman is used to adorn the men/man.

reply

I'm replying late but this was an interesting perspective. I guess I've never thought about that but you're right, huh, I can't think of a movie cover/poster that focuses on a woman other than horror movies. I'm sure that there is a lot of psychology involved there.

reply

In more recent years, there have been the female superhero posters, which almost always feature the woman in a skin-tight outfit, but yeah I'm sure there's a lot of thought behind it. It probably ties into the widely held belief that men often won't see movies with a female lead, kinda like how little boys won't read books with a female protagonist, whereas the reverse isn't believed to be true - that is, girls and women have no problem with men leading films and books. I don't personally believe this is true, but it is widely believed.

reply

I see that for sure. I think a lot of boys and young men read the Hunger Games so maybe that will change things for the better as far as female acceptance. I see a LOT of films and TV shows with female leads on Netflix lately. Enough that I've noticed for sure.

He was given oxygen.

reply

Lol. Smother it now until it stops breathing!

reply

LOL, he’s not trying to speak “for women”, he’s just speaking for science. And considering it’s his documentary it seems appropriate he would be on the cover. Just because you are a woman doesn’t mean you get to determine the definition of a woman.

reply

Wooshhhh

reply

I see you have no response , libtard logic is often defeated by common sense

reply

You missed my point. You are one of those people who uses words like 'libtard' and don't realize how it makes you come off.

It makes you seem like an uneducated, backwoods yokel.

reply

Naw, I'm just treating you the way you deserve to be treated. If you don't like being called a "libtard' then you should change your behavior.

reply

You can disagree with me but it doesn't change the impression you give.

reply

Trust me kiddo, your impression of me is pretty low on my priority list.

reply

You could have just read what the film is about and that would have been enough but why do a couple of minutes of research when you can just have a knee-jerk reaction.

reply

I'm just talking about my impression at first sight (my knee-jerk reaction). That's what I'm reacting to, I'm not talking about the actual film which could be perfectly reasonable.

reply

Well your knee-jerk reaction isn't the movies or the covers fault so maybe you should be criticizing yourself and not the thing that you imagined in your head.

reply

How is it not the covers fault? That's the impression that the cover gives.

reply

You're a lost cause.

reply

So you have a knee jerk reaction at the cover without having any idea what’s in the video.

Are you an American? that overreacts based on his own projections withou even understanding or trying to understand what’s the thing he reacts to?

The guy is the one posing the question and searching for the answer.

reply

Covers are supposed to give you an idea of what's in the video. It's completely normal to have an automatic and unthinking response to covers.

The fact that people are making such a big deal over an involuntary response, which is what a knee jerk reaction is, is so bizarre. You obviously are defending this man because you like him.

I don't know who he is or care who he is. If you can't understand how someone would react negatively to a cover that asks what a woman is and has a man on the cover, that is a problem. Most people can understand another person's perspective without having to work so hard.

I would have a knee jerk reaction to a cover that said what is a man with a woman on the cover too.

reply

Dude, the title is a fucking question.

And the guy on the cover is asking the question.

We are not making a big deal, YOU are. And you keep defending your stupid "knee jerk reaction". Which I doubt it's even the reason for your post. If I would see the cover I would google what's about, or read few posts.

You cannot be calling A FUCKING POST an involuntary response.

"Oh shit, did I write this???? It was SO involuntary, I didn't even realize it" - roflmao. WTF??

reply

Why do you care so damn much about my opinion? ffs

reply

I don’t …

But you care enough to make it public. And well, when you make it public …

reply

*eyeroll* you don't care you're just writing angry paragraphs for the Hell of it. You CARE.

reply

No, I don’t, but I have enough time to shit post, just like you’re doing.

But since you’re saying that if you post you care then: WHAT DO YOU CARE?

Obviously you care and obviously your post was not a knee jerk reaction or involuntary. It’s a calculated post against the book, camouflaged as an “Involuntary” knee jerk reaction.

reply

I'm not gonna get sucked into your weird conspiracy world psycho.

reply

Oh no, I’m so uncomfortable because I’m a man and I don’t think men should be able to say what woman means because they’re not women.

Just like I’m not a rock, so I can’t tell others what it means to be a rock.

reply

Are you seriously advertising your dog book series?

reply

Dude wrote some books and wants people to read them. What's complicated about that?
