Batman shouldn't wear a cape.

I haven't watched The Batman (2022), in the previous movies they have effectively used the cape for Batman to glide through the air, shield himself from fire, etc... but like in an actual fight I think it would get in the way, should they remove it and redesign a more practical Batsuit?

Actually I thought about this from a collage of the different Batmen since the 1940s - 2022, they all look slightly different.

I prefer Batman with a cape. When I think Batman, the cape comes to mind. I think that's part of why I can't really get into Batman Beyond. I don't like how Batman Beyond does the cape/wings. And I'm like Tyrone Magnus. Cape flapping. I'm a sucker for cape flapping visuals/shots or whatever you want to call them. But I do see the argument about the cape getting in the way during fights and something for the bad guys to maybe grab onto and stuff and use against Batman.

You want to take away the cape from the caped crusader?

reply

Well, he's not actually a Crusader either.

All superheroes should have capes

reply

but not all superheroes wear capes

reply

Yes and that could be a plot hole. I'll have to think about this

It's cool in comics and movies, but realistically it would be a seriously hinder one's fighting abilities.

reply

In the comics and the movies (where with CGI the cape can behave exactly as it's supposed to) it's a must. IRL it would be suicide.

I'm all for nude Batman, fighting the good fight butt naked.

Ummmmm......😳

Yeah, that guy made this very weird lol😆

I'm just thinking outside the box.

A creative type, fair enough.

Bruce Wayne took on the mantle of a bat, as it was something that had scared him as a child and he thought it would intimidate villains. Part of Batman's shtick is that he tries to scare the life of the people he is facing. Something about the cape completes the look, and just makes him look cool.

Of course, you are right. In a real fight, having a cape on would just get in the way. But logic always falls down somewhere in super hero media. They probably decided that looking bad-ass outweighed any logical fallacy.

It's one of the best kept secrets of the DC universe that Batman's cape is actually magical like Wonder Woman's lasso. Seriously, in one comics panel it'll be about 30 feet across as it billows in the night sky, whilst in the next it'll drape nicely around his shoulders at a modest six feet.
