I'm sure none of you have heard of this before because I am actually the person that made it up. I've been noticing it with Farrell movies. For whatever reason, any movie that he's in just sucks. He has virtually no good movies. He's a good actor himself and he gets cast in a ton of big movies but if he's in it, it'll suck. I didn't know he was in this movie until today. I saw the trailer before and thought it might be bad already just because Pattinson is terrible whenever batman scenes show up. Now that I know that Farrell is in it, I am now 100% sure it is going to suck. Mark my words.
Also I was really looking forward to this movie because of Pattinson. He is such an interesting character actor and makes all his roles better than it should be. However, for some reason he looks terrible in this. I hope I'm wrong but it's unlikely the Farrell curse gets broken.
I can't say I've seen his entire body of work, but he has certainly been in some great films. In Bruges is a near perfect film, and he is a large part of the reason why it's so good. I think Miami Vice is excellent, though I'm a huge Michael Mann fan, so I may have a bit of bias on that one. The Lobster was great for what it was, though it isn't for everyone, and though I have not yet seen it, I've heard from a number of people that Killing of a Sacred Deer is quite good. I've heard similar about Seven Psychopaths. And, though it isn't really my kind of film, I have to admit that for dumb comedy, Horrible Bosses was much better than average.
i didnt like in bruges and whenever i trash farrell, it gets mentioned. miami vice was objectively bad and it was widely panned when it came out. i'm a huge mann fan too and collateral was one of the best movies ever. miami vice was just super cereal and it ended up being boring. i remember how much everyone was anticipating it after collateral was so good. lobster was weird and boring. also for some reason i always thought i had seen killing of sacred deer but upon writing this, i checked the trailer and realized i never did. maybe it will be good after all. you mentioned only a few movies but farrell was in a fuck ton. doesnt that prove my point?
I was actually planning to argue against your post, and I realized, I couldn't.
Also yeah, Miami Vice was such a massive disappointment. I went to theaters for that because Collateral, and I usually don't go to theaters for movies other than horror and big budget action popcorn flicks.
It's weird, I never think of Farrell as a 'movie star'. I think of him as an actor who's in movies, but I've never seen him as a 'puts asses on seats' kinda guy.
Agreed. Solid actor, handsome, but lacks the charisma of a star. I am sure he makes a lot of money and gets high-quality sex partners, so I am sure he has few complaints .
Well - he now has a mini series in which he has actually proven that he can act.
Watch 'The North Water'. It came out this year. While Farrel is not the lead, he does have a very prominent part and you wouldn't know it was him due to his acting (make up is just a part of it - he's actually nailed the acting part).
Furthermore, it's actually a really good mini series.
i never said he's a bad actor. he's just in bad movies/scripts. i did watch the north water and it was almost good. it nose dived so fast though. second half was awful. also al capone died way too early. he was carrying the show.
lol sorry i thought you'd get that reference right away. the ship's captain is played by stephen graham. his most famous role and claim to fame is playing al capone in boardwalk empire. i didn't even know his name and just looked him up right now.
