For those of you that have seen the movie?
What would you give it on a scale of 1-10 and why?
share8/10
share6/10. This feels really unnecessary. We have seen this before in the other Alien films and similar films, usually done better. Alien: Romulus doesn't do enough distinctively to stand out. Performances are hit and miss. Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, and Isabela Merced are effective, but the rest of the cast fell flat for me. No one here even comes close to matching Sigourney Weaver's iconic performance in the original Alien. It's not very scary and only moderately entertaining. For me, this is the weakest of the Alien films.
sharei would say:
-the beginning sequence (Nostromo debris, etc) and the introduction of characters and their decrepit colony lifestyle was amazing 9.7/10
-as soon as we reached the space station and the facehuggers started popping like popcorn 6.3/10
-seeing Rook and the cheap cheap CGI 4.7/10
-when Kay gave birth to the abomination 3.1 /10
therefore my score appears to be 6.0/10
Very good. The beginning was the beginning of a great movie.
shareI'd probably give it a 6.5 - 7 score. Alien and Aliens were 10/10 hotties, whereas Alien: Romulus was a cute girl next door; not as hot, but I wouldn't be ashamed to tell my friends about her.
The consensus was right about Andy and Rain. Andy was the best character, but Rain didn't annoy me, and might just be the best wannabe Ripley of the series. The other characters were kind of bland, but I would probably rank Kay the best of them.
I didn't like the end so much, nor the design. I also didn't like some of the overly blatant homages to previous films.
As far as the plot, the worst part was probably the facehugger/temperature thing, since the implication is that they would be incapable on performing on a hot summer day. It was a bit too much for me.
Also, B.C. was wasted, but his off-screen death might have been a homage to Hicks and Newt.
Your thoughts are very close to my own. I had a blast seeing in in IMAX yesterday. Solid 7/10 imo.
Andy was fantastic. I was rooting for him the entire film. And all three chicks were the more interesting characters than the dudes, imo.
Definite pacing issues made the last act drag. Could have lost ten-fifteen minutes, easy. Too many callbacks. Enjoyed the handheld camera work, which iirc was a first in the series.
Who was B.C., though? Bjorn?
B.C. is "Big Chap," the nickname for the original 1979 alien. I thought he was wasted since he got the Hicks and Newt treatment (offscreen death). Why dig him up to do him dirty?
shareHuh. I've seen the first two movies countless times but I never knew that. Now I recall wondering about his death too.
share3 - disappointment 4 sure, not orig & just bunch o easter eggz
share8/10. It's at its weakest when it's referencing the other Alien flilms and it's its strongest when it's being its own movie.
