Don't get me wrong there were some decent performances by the actors. I liked the cast, I really did.
I thought Louis CK sucked though... The story was bland and I was fighting to stay awake watching this thing. It was the most boring piece of work I've seen in a long time. The last 30 mins or so I got into it more but the previous what felt like 3 hours was slow, and uninteresting. I don't want to give away many spoilers but the story isn't anything special. There were a few good scenes here and there but as a complete body of work I really didn't enjoy it or think that it should have been nominated for so many Oscars.
I was about to post exactly the same thing in this board. Thank God I'm not the only one. I can't understand the Oscar love for David O Russell. His movies are amazingly overrated, yet he always gets nominated. O Russell must have them wrapped around his finger.
I mean - I honestly just don't get it. None of the characters were likable to me. I honestly couldn't care less about any of them. Meaning I couldn't care less about the plot - which, by the way was a snooze fest.
I was surprised because not only did it have all these rave reviews and oscar nods, but I usually like Jennifer Lawrence. Regardless of who she plays, she manages to always make her characters relatable. I just didn't get that with this movie.
Over rated -Yes Most over rated all time - Not even close
American Hustle has the makings of a movie that could be great be falls short. I usually like plot twists but after seeing this - I felt like it was a good movie worth viewing but nothing special
I watched it for the first time the other night, and I have to say, I was really looking forward to it, I wanted to like it, but I found myself bored, and while there were some good moments. This film I feel was a let down.
You guys can't notice a good film-making unless it's down your throat. Subtly made references about modern society, complex, unpredictable but weirdly relatable nature of characters - perfectly realised by outstanding cast - it's all there.
It's shame to see that so many people didn't see it or all they saw was surface decorated with 'pretty' production values.
As time goes on I actually started to respect and love movies because of its almost 'hidden' values that deserve a bit more attention, especially to some specific details on all accounts. That's why I can't trust a 'regular' moviegoers anymore who became more shallow than ever - and I don't buy that *beep* about different tastes, one thing is to dis/like some themes or concept but here we are talking about quality film-making and bravura acting performances and you can't ignore those aspects, it's simple as that. I wont even start talking about short attention spans and people very easily labeling something as 'boring' or 'uninteresting' (and funny thing is, AH isn't even a slow movie).
It's better solution for anyone who doesn't want to miss some really remarkable movies because of posts like this one, to actually read some real in-depth reviews written by people who can recognize a good film - find 2 or 3 of them who make some good points in their reviews and there you have it.
There is absolutely NOTHING subtle about this film - which was a big reason I disliked it so much. It clobbered you over the head with its knowing cleverness, then rammed it down your throat.
