23% gave this a 10/10?

Please tell me I'm not reading that right....

If this is the sad truth about moviegoers, seeing it has officially cemented in my mind the idea that humanity is doomed. When a sub-par comedy like this (5/10 at best IMO) gets treated as if it was royalty, it is a truly embarassing day for filmmaking. I think over time audiences have somehow duped themselves into thinking a few good jokes = A good Comedy Film. Definitely the worst movie of the summer, let alone the year, that I've seen.
As a suggestion; If you want a truly great comedy that doesn't degrade the intelligence of its audience by resorting to offensive and worse, Unfunny, slapstick humour, spend your money seeing 'The Way, Way Back'.

generally speaking i don't pay much attention to extreme ratings (i.e. 10's and 1's) when looking at the vote details of a typical movie around here since some people hand out 10/10's like crazy (hell, even 8's and 9's for that matter to) and others might hand out 1's pretty easily to (or some do it in a attempt to raise or lower a movies rating instead of giving their honest opinion of it). but at the moment over 50% of the total votes landed on either a 7/10(26.2%) or 8/10(25.5%) with most of the votes being a 7/10.

for measure... my most common ratings i hand out are a 6/10 (Thumbs Down) and a 7/10 (Thumbs Up). i have rated over 1650+ movies and only around 80 of those landed on either a 9/10 or 10/10 from me (my 10/10 count is probably floating around 30) so i don't hand out super high ratings much in general as even 8's are not easy to obtain which is my minimum score to consider something memorable basically. although a 7/10 is my minimum score for something to be in re-watch territory as anything i give a 6/10 or less i won't be re-watching basically.

We're the Millers is pretty much the best comedy of the 4-5 i have seen this year (i have seen 55 movies total at the moment for 2013 released movies). i give it a 7/10. i had some good laughs in it and i could see it again.

p.s. but i am somewhat inline with the OP in that comedies just don't leave a lasting impression on me like quality serious movies do which is why i have not exceeded a 8/10 for a comedy (pretty much) but a comedy pulling off a 8/10 is still memorable basically and that's what counts but the last straight comedy i gave a 8/10 to was 2003's Bad Santa. but the last three comedy movies i gave a 8/10 to but are more of drama/comedies (about half/half) are... Find Me Guilty/The Matador/Thank You For Smoking as those three rank within my top 10 movies in their respective years with most of them floating around the top 5 area.

Look no offense as I agree with your comment and you seem a smart guy but you do realize that IMDB is a tiny percentage of the movie going public and in truth who has time to come on this site and post a score after each film lol I mean I love films and I see maybe 1 aday? and I love imdb but I still maybe only record 50% or less of my movies as a score so the average person would be lucky to no it even exists! There are other sites but even all combined is again a tiny percentage of the overall millions of film goers......so some fools gave it a 10 lol that s what is really funny, a 10! but hey let those ignorant fools enjoy their film, maybe they r mostly shills paid to lie, who knows but what i know is they are nothing in the grand scheme and an imdb rating has little to do with profit or success.

Man, the ratings are subjective thing also. For example, I have different criteria for comedy, for drama etc. but it ends in giving numbers, which are unchangeable.
So, try not to get so upset about IMDb ratings, because they are not ultimatum, nor they are the true average scores for every movie in the world - being so - they do not sum up the mind state of the man kind.

The movie was a real 10 for my and my gf, was a very predictable comedy, home family, stupid and silly humor at times, but WE LAUGHED the whole movie and that's what is about !
I feel really sorry for you my 'tweet' friend, can't shake off the sarcastic humour anymore, isn't?

Drama queen.

I agree. Total crap. I have to sound like an old timer bit good comedies are rare. Check out Slap Shot and Used Cars.

I'm watching it right now, 49 minutes in and it's badly edited, and lazily directed. The acting is fine, but there's no flow, which means no energy. And that is poison to a comedy.
