If this is the sad truth about moviegoers, seeing it has officially cemented in my mind the idea that humanity is doomed. When a sub-par comedy like this (5/10 at best IMO) gets treated as if it was royalty, it is a truly embarassing day for filmmaking. I think over time audiences have somehow duped themselves into thinking a few good jokes = A good Comedy Film. Definitely the worst movie of the summer, let alone the year, that I've seen. As a suggestion; If you want a truly great comedy that doesn't degrade the intelligence of its audience by resorting to offensive and worse, Unfunny, slapstick humour, spend your money seeing 'The Way, Way Back'.
You really need to grow up. Just because you are a miserable human being doesn't mean you need to try to take away other people's enjoyment. This is the type of review that someone with no life, no friends, and no talent would post. Giving no reasons that the movie is bad other than you didn't find it funny and therefore it's the worst movie of the year. Then you want to talk about unfunny slapstick humor while saying that Pulp Fiction is one of the best movies of all time, talk about unnecessary gore and violence with a subpar story, just like all of Tarantino's movies. People that enjoyed this movie aren't what's wrong with humanity, people like you are.
I can't say anything about all the fighting going on in this thread but I've noticed a pattern on IMDB. Where almost all new movies get a 10/10 rating by a female audience. This helps keep the average score for the movie for the first few days high enough for people to notice.
This could be a bot activity or a script that does automatic voting. IMDB staff needs to look into this matter.
slow down there buddy. jeez, don't make this so personal. Anyway, If what your trying to prove by this long winded message is that We're the Millers is a better movie than Pulp Fiction, your wrong. flat out wrong.
People that enjoyed this movie aren't what's wrong with humanity, people like you are
ok, let me make this clear, I COULDN'T GIVE A *beep* IF YOU ENJOYED THIS MOVIE, to each their own. i tend to disagree with the majority in this case, which is my opinion. Now, if you hadn't completely mis-read my OP you would have seen that my only issue was the fact that i couldn't believe that almost a quarter of the audience gave this a 10/10 (perfect score). i for one thought it was subpar, but i was in no way attacking those who enjoyed it, i just don't understand how anyone would say this is a perfect film.
so, if you want to be correct, you should say I'm questioning those who believe this is 10/10 cinema/comedy/whatever lol

Well, If Pulp Fiction's story is "subpar" Were the Millers must be non-existent. how in the world are slapstick humour and gore/violence connected? seriously, one is done for laughs and the other is done for dramatic purposes. i guess both can be abused, but how can you say (essentially) "you didn't like slapstick, so you don't like extreme violence in films". that just doesn't make any sense. I'm someone who only likes slapstick if it is done very well, and a guy getting his balls bit by a spider was not something i find very funny or amusing.
As for these missing reasons, heres an excerpt from one of my posts that you must have skipped over;
there is a significant difference between a film being "silly" and it being "sloppy". i just recently saw 'The Heat', a film thats rather cliched, over the top, low-browed, and i really enjoyed it. so don't make random assumptions, and then use them as arguments about me being an "elitist" critic. This film was cringeworthy for me at a lot of points. The plot was completely unbelievable, and so loosely connected to the actual characters i didn't care about it or them at all. Did they really think Completely unjustified meanness and a scene involving swollen balls was funny? Sure, Nick Offerman was great, but it wasn't enough to make up for the lack of quality the rest of the film displayed, ala jokes falling flat all over the place. And after all is set and done, it is a comedy, so f*uck story and *beep* character development, all you need are bare bone laughs to make the film worth while. And for me, they were seldom and too far apart. Don't care if you enjoyed it, to each their own, but this is no where near a perfect movie as 23% are saying it is.
i'm with you here, it got so embarassingly bad, that i had to stop watching. i was in for a light comedy and thought with the score of 7+ it can't be as bad as the poster makes it out to be. one hour in i regretted my decision to give this flick a try, it was just too much stupid, forced and unfunny jokes and unimaginative scenes after one another to be enjoyable.
it's not 100% bad, i gave it a 3/10, but i just can't think of any reason anybody with half a brain would really enjoy this. maybe if you're 10 years old, but then again the topic, language, nudity don't really cater to children. big black cock. i mean, wtf, this scene was just below bad.
giving this a 10/10? yeah, right...
i have to admit, the imdb-gang seems to put too much value on the score, seeing that people have different tastes/moods/expectations, so if the imdb rating is ~2pt off of my personal opinion, i've come to not being surprised anymore, although this can make the difference between a mediocre, hence boring, movie (5) and a thoroughly enjoyable one. but looking on the score, even i can only shake my head in disbelieve and can't possibly imagine people giving this a ten.
fst5000, you're clearly one of those lowlifes that looks for fault in everything because of your own miserable life. An "embarrassingly bad" movie doesn't retain the #2 spot in week 3. This movie is getting great word of mouth. Learn how to enjoy yourself so you can quit making embarrassingly stupid posts.
Wow, it's crazy to think that our society is so caught up in themselves that they need to judge what other people may like or dislike and the extent of those likes/dislikes. What does it matter what someone else thought of the movie? if you didn't enjoy it or think it very good, for whatever your reasoning, so be it. But, why condemn what others think of it, based solely on your personal preference? I personally enjoyed the movie. My rating? it was high. Does it really matter to you or anyone else what my standard for rating a movie is? Does it make me less intelligent than you if I do not agree?
Movies are meant to entertain. This movie entertained me. It entertained my grown children, and my husband. If it didn't entertain you as it did us, then give it a lower rating. A rating you think it deserves. That is the purpose of these ratings. But don't belittle others who think differently than you. Think about it, then go grab a different movie (One that YOU like), some popcorn, and be entertained!
People have different opinions and have the right to rate the movie whatever they want. You'll just strain yourself trying to convince people why this movie isn't worth a 10/10. Movies that you may think are a 10 may not be to other people. It's just a pointless endeavour arguing over it.
I 100% disagree with what you said. But thats ok because all opinions are valid. If people loved it then it can be voted at 10 if they feel that way. I loved the film, didnt give it a ten, but do you what, it wasnt far off. It was so much better than I thought - and there were some moments where I laughed so much it hurt. That has got to be a good sign. The 6 of the 7 main characters in the film, ie Millers and the family they come across (except their daughter) are all really funny. The kissing scene is an absolute cringe-inducing hilarious moment (IN MY OPINION). But I dont tell people what to like or hate - or that they are wrong. I loved it, you didnt. Thats why we BOTH get to rate it.
I give everything that I love or just like a 10 on IMDb, not because I think they deserve a ten but because not even if I rated it a 20 would it balance out all the unfair, extremely low ratings.
It's obvious that the studio or distributor has teams of interns probably stacking the deck in their favor for this film on IMDb. There's no other possible explanation.
