Is it really as great as most people say it is?
Cheers.
shareNo. I just watched it today for the first time and felt it was an hour too long. After they detonated that shit and Oppenheimer showed his regret I was ready for it to be over. Instead the movie drags on for another long, uninteresting, grueling hour.
4/10 only because it had nice production value.
No, its not very good! Way too pretentious.
shareIt's a masterpiece. Don't listen to the squares.
shareIt is very good but not without its flaws. I do believe it’s slightly overlong and could have been edited down a bit. A stronger focus on Oppenheimer and the development of the bomb, and less time devoted to the petty rivalry between him and Strauss would have been ideal.
While I would not consider it the “masterpiece” that others are, it’s definitely worth watching and deciding for yourself.
The Day After Trinity was way better.
share1989's Fat Man and Little Boy was way worse.
shareBiographies are difficult.
*The negative*
It was too A.D.D. for my taste, kept jumping around timelines for what seem like every 5 minutes.
The dialogue was also not really natural, focusing on getting in a "zinger" within the 3min scene timeframe than off the the next scene.
Music background played over most all dialogue in the film (like 90%+), this annoys me to no end, older movies just didn't have that much music.
*The positive*
The acting performances were first rate.
Good movie to watch for history buffs like me.

I completely agree. I feel all of Nolan's movies are like this.
