Allyson's boyfriend being a dick for no reason

The entire movie he seems like an ok dude, then at the dance he's randomly kissing another girl, and of course Allyson sees this. He goes to what looked like to explain and try and save his ass, and Allyson doesn't really act that outraged and yet he suddenly turns dick mode on and for no reason at all tosses her phone into a bowl of pudding and goes "Hey you gonna get that? you want me to?". Like he just turned into some generic highschool bully.

I'm like dude are you a fucking idiot? thats not exactly how you get your girlfriend to forgive what you just did, i don't give a fuck about him being drunk, even drunk a dude would know better. He acted as if he had a reason to be mad at her or something. Then theres just no follow up to that at all, the dick boyfriend doesn't die or anything he's just not seen again.

Every male character in the movie was depicted as either an incapable victim or a douchebag.I don't mind strong women characters but why must all male characters be depicted as weak or pathetic in comparison.

reply

Every character was beyond dumb, except that kid Julian and somewhat Vicky.

reply

Yep, my thoughts exactly. The father character is the absolute worst. A total incompetent man-child. They do the exact same thing in the Disney Star Wars movies. Not until the last couple of years has it been deemed necessary in cinema to tear down male characters in order to prop up female ones. It's lazy and absolutely patronising to women. Do they think we are stupid? That women have no innate strong characteristics so men need to be taken down to even out the sexes? Modern Hollywood is pathetic.

reply

It is the same in TV commercials, the (almost always white) man is shown to be dumb/incompetent and the woman is presented as being super smart and the one with the solution to whatever issue they are having.

reply

Yes, you're right! It's laughable how unsubtle it's become. Maybe it's a trend that will peter out over time? We can only hope...

reply

Excellent response, Chloe. You sound like a smart, capable woman in your post, and you didn’t have to put down any men to make your point. Bravo!

Halloween 2018 is just another example of woke culture wrecking things.

reply

Thank you Strangenstein! Lol. Yep, no putting-down-of-men necessary. I won't be paying to see the sequels, that's for sure.

That's feminism for you.

I think they had enough strong male characters to avoid being completely woke and anti-male.

For example, Officer Hawkins was a badass sheriff and he actually learned his lesson and APPLIED it this time. In the movie it said he was there and stopped Dr. Loomis from completely finishing off Michael in the first Halloween killing spree. This time around he's the only cop who took all this seriously and when he hunted Micheal his intention was to kill him upon sight. When he first see's Micheal in the house where the babysitter Vicky was just murdered he yells "Micheal"! and immediately opens fire on him as Micheal ran down the stairs! Doesnt bother saying "freeze" or anything like that xD
Then when the detective in the cowboy hat tells Hawkins to take Doctor Sartain, He responds "heck no, he's a civilian and a liability"! But the detective insists because the doctor studied Michaels psychology for decades.
Hawkins has Allyson in the backseat, Doctor Sartain in the passenger and is driving around, as soon as Allyson and the Doctor points out Micheal he RUNS HIM OVER without hesitation! The cop was truly a badass!

It saddened me to see Hawkins get killed by Sartain stabbing him in the neck. Hawkins saw the doctor as a liability but not an enemy so he got caught off guard.

Another decent male was the kid being babysat, Julian. He was smart enough to alert Vicky, tried to convince Vicky to send Dave (a man) to check out his room. Then when Vicky couldnt be helped she told Julian to run and as he ran by Dave he gave real warning with "Dave dont go up there you'll die too"! Kid was pretty awesome!

The Hunting Dad and his Son where decent. It may not have been smart to hop out of the truck, but the Dad was brave enough to realize he may need to help someone and risked it. Then the Son was brave enough to check on his Dad. It didnt end well for either of them, but they had courage to attempt to help and it shouldnt be ignored.

Another Male who showed courage, was the Journalist Aaron Korey who ran into the bathroom to help his female coworker Dana Haines. He saw Michael, tall imposing psycho killer, yet still had the sand to fight the guy!!! That takes bravery! And it even showed Dana freezing up and not taking the opportunity to either run away or help Aaron. So it didnt show Dana as a "empowered wahman" like hollywood likes to show these days.

It was sad when they died as well. I wish Dana wouldve attempted to help Aaron seeing as he tried in earnest to save her...but she froze.

I agree that the males were generally written to be man-children, but I assume that was McBride adding his schtick into the story. Just look at his usual cabal of friends. Hawkins wasn't a boob on screen

reply

In the deleted scenes on the DVD they patch things up but he gets arrested and carted off - I imagine he'll be back in the sequel.

reply

It was fairly obvious that they needed to get them to fight as a plot device so the boyfriend would throw her phone into the bowl so therefore she's have no phone for the rest of the movie.

However the scene was 100% unearned. You are correct sir. It's like he flipped a switch, the girl didn't really seem toc are all that much, and went into dick mode out of left field because the plot needed him to. It felt forced, staged, and stupid.

Bad writing for certain. But hey everyone is in love with this movie

reply

It couldve worked better if the friendzoned dude hit on her and then grew angry when she denies his advances and he throws her phone. Just an idea that wouldve made more sense than whole "proof is in the pudding" scene.

reply

idk why he didn't just wanna motorboat her sweet rack like a real man.

reply

There is a reason: This is a feminist movie so of course all men must look bad.

I hated the boyfriend as well. Turns out the "popular boy" at school is not so impressive when the mask falls away and you see who he really is.

That being written, in the boyfriends defense, the tiger costumed girl was HOT and dressed much more attractive than Allyson. Also, with Allyson being the one forcing the boyfriend to keep it a secret about their bonnie and clyde costume cross-dressing thing, it makes me wonder if it was HER idea to do this weird cross-dressing nonsense!? Maybe the boyfriend was seeing how woke and weird Allyson was, then he saw her "crazy grandmother" and the family drama at dinner and was like..."you know what, this chick is kinda woke, she's making me dress like a woman, her family seems nutty, I think I would rather make-out with this SEXY chick and just ditch this weird girl".

When you think of it this way, his erratic anger doesnt seem so outlandish. He may have acted extra angry to make sure she will break-up with him. That whole good guy routine was probably just a schtick to ingratiate himself with her and the family but it fell through as he realized he didnt like her so much. So the mask fell away as soon as another girl came along.

It’s almost like the boyfriend was like ‘fuck this woke shit’ and suddenly left the film.

Unfortunately he was an annoying douche and dressed as a woman for half the film so I struggled to like him.
