First, they cast a black man as the lead (remember, it was Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in the original). But that's not enough! They also have to make him gay now too. Imagine if Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise had a sex scene together.

I was excited for this show since I'm a fan of the original, but I turned it off as soon as the gay sex started. Why does everything have to be so woke now? I don't want this shit shoved down my throat (no pun intended).

Weren't they always gay? I vaguely remember when it was new most people seemed to think Cruise and Pitt were "coded" as gay.

It might have been implied with subtext in the original, but it wasn't shoved down our throats with explicit homoerotic sex scenes between the two.

In the very first episode of the new show, not even halfway through, we get a full on gay sex scene. Totally unnecessary.

This series is based on a set of novels where the vampires are indeed gay for each other. It just couldn't be included in the previous adaptation because of how homophobic people were back then.

Were they also black in the original? My point is that it feels like they're just making it woke to make it woke.

No, you are completely right in that aspect. In fact not only they made Lui black, they also changed the time period the story is set in so that he can experience more prejudice related to his race and social standing. So yes there was race bending but the gayness was always an integral part of the story.

They are not "gay for each other" in the original novel. In fact, NO ONE is overtly "gay" until David Talbot is revealed to be bisexual in the fourth book (Tale of the Body Thief) and he actually turns DOWN an opportunity to sleep with Lestat.

Those of us who actually READ the books are aware of that.

Of course, the creators of Encounter with a Turdpile have zero interest in actually following the books.

Normal people haven't changed, the establishment have just become more bold in forcing acts on people via media inculcation in an attempt to normalise aberrant behaviour.

I completely agree. It's new so of course it's woke. Decent movies/shows were done before 2015ish, not after. I saw this come up in the "Trending" area and as soon as I saw that it had a black male lead I straight away went to IMDB and gave it a 2 out of 10. Then I came back here and saw that it's gay too. I made the right decision.

It was black people that pointed out that culture appropriation is not right- I'm just sticking with it. I doubt any blacks will be beaten or killed for it like they did to whites however.

Everything written by Anne Rice is swathed in homoeroticism. The love between to the two leads is in the original book.

That you object to that makes your viewpoint rather irrelevant.

If queer characters are always "woke", then this tale was "woke" from the beginning, from the book.
