thanks for your reply, i appreciate it. i really liked horrible bosses and friends with benefits and i'm usually ok with some raunchiness. as far as all comedies go, i'm a big fan of the judd apatow movies. wedding crashers and the 1st hangover are also up there on my list of favorites. i'm definitely going to see it and i generally have a different opinion of movies that get bad reviews and ratings. i was just wondering if there's any validity to what some people have been saying.

I think when a movie gets mixed reviews it's because it did not reach every demographic of viewers. For instance, The Change Up is obviously targeted towards fathers, bachelors, fast track executives, and couples going through a bit of a rut. There is very little in this movie to directly address the stresses of teenagers, however that doesn't mean they won't enjoy it. If you are outside of the above demagraphics then perhaps you won't enjoy or get much of the humor. Another example of targeting audiences in a recent movie is the film Puss and Boots. A small percent of the humor is targeted towards cat owners or those who interact with cats, those who are not familiar with the antics of cats or their owners will not find it as amusing.

I'm not sure if that was supposed to be a joke or not, but it was still the funniest post that I've read in a long time...

I actually thought this was funnier than Horrible Bosses. (I did like HB though)

I laughed pretty hard myself. I thought there was some crude humor at times but overall the movie was pretty hilarous.

We saw it tonight and there was a lot of laughter going on in the theatre! I thought Horrible Bosses was funnier but this wasn't a waste of time by any means! Both actors did a pretty good job and Leslie Mann can break your heart when she cries!

I felt so bad for her!

IDK what the critics were smoking but the movie is hilarious. heartfelt but raunchy, great acting. I thought it was a little better than Horrible Bosses (which I also liked a lot), way better than Bad Teacher and The Hangover Part II but I liked Friends with Benefits and Bridesmaids better.

I didn't think Change Up was better than Horrible Bosses or Bridesmaids (didn't see Hangover 2). It was still funny though, and I found myself laughing a lot.

There was a LOT of F bombs though...man...people don't even talk like that in real life! This will never be on cable...ever. lol

I wouldn't rent it, or watch it again, but it was good for the first time around.

Yeah, some people talk like that in real life.

If you want to be grossed out, this is your movie...

You wouldn't call it a great movie. But you won't feel like you wasted your money. I had low expectations due to the reviews but the movie got quite a few laughs from me. I enjoyed it. There's the more subtle humor in the dialogue at times and then the dumb raunchy stuff which I didn't much enjoy.

reply

It actually wasn't too bad. There were some parts that were really gross, but it might be funny to some people. I'm just not a huge fan of *beep* humor. But there were some parts that were really funny, and it was great watching Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman play each other. I thought Horrible Bosses and Friends With Benefits were better, but I was surprised how much I liked this.

reply

Yes, I thought Friends with Benefits is hilarious. But when humor is made about disabilities like the Change Up, that is just cruel!
