Which other 90s blockbuster films should get a sequel?

Apparently audiences were always wanting a Twister sequel.., who knew? (well the fact Twister made about 500m in 1996 should've been an indication but anyway)

What other disaster movies from yesteryear (90s/00s) could go big if they did a legacy sequel?

-Dante's Peak 2, another volcano with two new stars (Sydney Sweeny & Henry Cavill). Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton cameo

-Armageddon 2, another comet. Ben Affleck is the lead this time, with Liv Tyler, William Fichtner and Steve Busemi returning (obviously no Bruce Willis , but he would be homaged throughout)

-The Rock 2 (1996 same year as Twister) Nicolas Cage returns as Stanley Goodspeed facing off/teaming up with another ex 007 (Brosnan or Craig) to take on terrorists attacking some big iconic American landmark (this time in NYC - the new WTC)

-Day After Tomorrow 2 - Jake Gyllenhall and Dennis Quaid are back, esp now climate change is so hot right now

You've taken all the good ones.

Blank Cheque 2
Quiz Show 2
Pulp Fiction 2

All 1994, my favourite year for cinema.

reply

These were not blockbusters.

reply

Agreed. But PF had a very low budget and was a hit.

reply

That's true. I thought it was more critically loved, and did not perform well at the BO. But, looking it up, it was the 10th highest grossing film that year.

reply

I had forgotten that it was the in the top 10.

The movie cost 8 million ,and made about 108 million domestic. I'd say the movie performed pretty well at the box-office maybe it wasn't a blockbuster ,but the movie was definitely a hit.

1994 was the best year of them all for movies including the best and my most favorite of them all - Stargate.

It spawned 3 amazing tv shows too.

List of amazing movies of 1994 is like 20+.

Stargate was not that good for me. I remember still at that time that something was wrong with the script. I thought : 'they had not got a good balance of story and action'.

SG-1 is my favourite of anything Stargate. I have watched almost every episode.

I think something like 90% of 1990s blockbusters followed the Die Hard formula of some resourceful guy trapped in some place controlled by terrorists or other bad guys. Harrison Ford even did one of these where he was the President trapped on Air Force One with hijackers.

None of those deserve sequels.

Saving Private Ryan 2 - We follow Private Ryan in civilian life as he tries to make up for all the men who died trying to save him.

Mrs Doubtfire 2 - After decades of wearing a dress, he decided to get the chop...

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves 2 - Costner is back and so is his accent..

reply

I think your Saving Private Ryan 2 idea has legs.

Ryan is back in the US of A and goes on a murder spree, killing anyone who wronged his dead compatriots. Captain Miller spins in his grave as Ryan butchers anyone who badmouthed Miller or looked at him the wrong way.

This time Ryan needs to be saved… from his own insanity.

You've Got Mail 2 should be about what happens to Joe and Kathleen's relationship after Fox Books goes under. Nora Ephron is no longer with us, but both Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are!

Pleasantville where Tobey Maguire learns that no matter how bad the 90s seemed, things can always get much worse.
