Pikes hair

His hair style is so ridiculous that it must have been a conscious style decision, but I just can't think of any reason other than it is meant to look dated.

reply

I keep staring at it. It's like a focal point on a painting.. it's... it's glorious...

reply

I've watched a few shows lately (can't recall off the top of my head) where the guys' hair styles were so over the top. but that appears to be the current styles.

reply

Yeah, would a goofball that wears his hair like that inspire leadership in a starship crew? Somehow I doubt it, even the 23rd century.

reply

Hairstyles have varied much farther from today's norm than Pike's; and soldiers and people respected their leaders regardless. You may find it odd by today's standards; and that is why many historical films have costumes that cater to the time they were produced, but different hairstyles are to be expected. Star Trek has actually been quite conservative in its hair, makeup, and costume choices for humans.

Ah, well. There you go, being the voice of rationality. Unfortunately, people always react to elements of fashion and grooming through the lens of their own day-to-day.

reply

Yeah, it’s odd.

I think his hairstyle was PERFECT on ST: Discovery. Too bad they didn’t have that style for him on this show.

reply

Yeah, I can't respect the hair-do. If he gave me a order, I might laugh and walk off.

reply

I'm not sure which is goofier... Pike's hair or Spock's sideburns...

reply

Spock's weird sideburns are truly awful but Pike's hair wins in goofiness because he is the captain of a ship and because it's easy to contrast with how much better it looked when he was on Discovery. Between Spock's sideburns, Uhura's hair, Pike's absurd hair, the weird Ortega thing, the hair person on this show must have been hired because they are someone's niece or nephew. I can't imagine how anyone could do worse.

reply

What? I think it looks awesome!

reply

I got to thinking and looked up Pike in the original series.

His hair in the wheelchair actually resembles that in Strange New Worlds, except it’s matted down a little. That tells me the hairstyle choice in Strange New Worlds is just keeping in line with the original series.

If Pike's pants come off at some point in this series, we can have a separate conversation about manscaping in the future

reply

He’s Captain Pike, not Kirk. I doubt his zipper will drop.
