Did they explain why adult Furiosa suddenly is being treated as some important princess who can give orders?

Maybe I missed that. Or saw some things wrong.

SPOILERS obviously.

.
As I understood from movie. And it's right there in the Wiki synopsis:

- One night, Rictus breaks Furiosa out of Joe's vault to r*pe her, but she slips from his grasp using a wig made from her own hair and disappears.

- Disguised as a mute teenage boy, Furiosa works her way up the ranks of Joe's men for over a decade.

- She plans to escape by hiding on the Rig when Joe sends his top driver, Praetorian Jack, on a supply run.

-Furiosa tries to carjack the Rig and drive home, but Jack easily thwarts her. However, he recognizes her potential and offers to train her to escape if she helps him rebuild his crew

- Furiosa becomes Jack's second-in-command and is promoted to Praetorian.

So..... Small girl runs away and vanishes. No one is looking for her. She lives and grows up pretending to be boy. Living among all men for years. Who no one notices she can't pee standing and has breasts. And has woman face. Not only that - she GROWS HER HAIR and walks with it.

Then she returns from that "ride" with Jack who "promotes her' and no one among those men wonders who the f*ck this new woman is. They just accept her as if she was a man. No one hits on her and tries to r*pe.

So this random woman becomes like "army royalty" immediately. No questions asked. And then when she is rescued from some another action scene - she shows up at the war meeting of Immortan Joe, his sons and other. And ORDERS them around what they should do. And is like: "Dementus is MINE". And none of them is like: "Who the f*ck is this woman? Know your place and shut up".

And remember that all pretty, young and healthy women are being locked in a vault to give birth to children. And Furiosa is young and healthy.

Adult Furiosa character is written as if this is male royalty of Citadel. Like some nephew of Immortan Joe. That's why no one blinks when she shows up and orders around.

Calm down son. It's just a movie, no need to nitpick everything.

I thought it was quite clear and it seems you yourself understand it. She hid among them, got took under the rig drivers wing during her escape attempt after proving herself a capable combatant (whilst being his second in command she was obviously protected by him and free from harassment), under his tutelage she became the best rig driver they had and thus was highly valuable, therefor she was respected and was in no danger from the others. She become Imperator Furiosa, she drove rigs and commanded war boys.

As for wondering where she came from, they probably assumed she joined the group from the wastelands, just some feral girl who became one of them.

reply

Nah. It was just lazy writing. It felt like there should have been more scenes explaining but were never shot or cut off.

I can suspend my disbelief. It's movie. I understand. But there are limits to that. It's disrespecting to viewers. In no way she could live with her woman body and long hair 10 years among huge gang of men who would not notice and did not try to f*ck her. Young horny men with no women around at all.

It's not like there was a hotel and they all had personal rooms. They all slept on the floor in one giant cave.

reply

I second Blackchristmas, it was quite obvious, she showcased her skills in securing the rig, and there was even a big deal made of it after when that one dude handed her a set of gloves that belonged to someone else, as if to say, you’ve been promoted and we appreciate you….

>Calm down, son, it's just a movie.

1. You're on a forum dedicated to discussing the details in movies

2. You yourself have discussed the details in movies numerous times

3. You're just upset someone is poking holes in a movie you like (or you're just aimlessly miserable)

4. Every second of every movie is hand-crafted by a team of people agonizing over the details. You think things just get up on screen without it being deliberate? Thus it's reasonable to analyze even the small details, and the OP was analyzing the larger ones.

5. Calm down old man

That's one of the reasons this movie is so badly written.

When adult Furiosa appears, not only Inmortan doesn't say "Is this the girl Who dissapeared from my harem years ago?", he also doesn't say "She is Young and beautiful, let's put her in the harem". I don't understand how George Miller could write something like this.

reply

Yep. And Dementus did not recognize her up until the final moments when she told him.

Such lazy writing.

reply

It's a silly movie. They were doing the right thing at first, with Furiosa being a trophy of war needing to be kept alive and untouched. Fully explained how such a person could live in such a place and become what she does. Then they threw all that out the window.

reply

Yes. Movie was actually better up until the Adult Furiosa showed up. When it was more about Dementus and then his rivalry with Citadel.

Anya Taylor-Joy was not good. Movie fell apart in quality when she showed up. Stoic and boring. Even girl-furiosa was more interesting to watch.

Hemsworth was actually good. He had character development. It was fun when his crazy ass was on screen.

And I did like "Mama Furiosa". Actress was good and charismatic.

reply

The only explanation, which is shown too briefly, is Praetorian Jack's status as the war rig driver. Whoever he takes as an apprentice will also get respect.

It's supposed to be Furiosa's back story, but they skipped nearly everything between her being a kid and then war rig driver. A scene where it's shown that war boys worship her like Jack would have been cool.

reply

Real missed opportunity not showing her bond and forming a relationship with the War Boys. They should have shown them hiding and protecting her, and then her eventually leading and protecting them. Thereby making her eventual treating them like total disposable road kill when she rescues the wives especially brutal. The movie kept skipping over the important parts we actually wanted to see.

reply

Transition between girl and adult Furiosa was weird. They should have shown her years. Because in no way in that barbarian society Woman would live among 1000 horny men safe. In no way she with her perfect womans face could fool anyone. And she had long hair! For who knows why. She would cut it off.

There was a movie with Casey Affleck where women died and only men left. And he had a daughter of some 10 years. And for years he pretended she was a boy to protect her. Cutting hair, wearing saggy cloth. Still as she would grow past 10 - men would look at her and recognize she is a girl.

In no way Furiosa could live there and pretending to be man. It was very lazy writing.

all of that is irrelrventy tiny overthinking nitpicking , no matter ho blatant it is

So did these nitpicks ruin the movie for you ?
Have you over anaylsed the original RoadWarrior movie to the same extent?

reply

I didn't watch original RoadWarrior movie as it's not my cup of tea. I don't like those kind of ridiculous movies when there is apocalypse and we have a gang of thousands of people who run around on bikes in desert. Never needing to eat, drink. Gas is just there.

reply

hehe those were the plotholes i was going to mention.

I would actually to see anyone try that. I'm fairly certain that aside from nitpicks owing to the film's technical limitations (e.g., the compound's fortifications are way too flimsy to keep a sufficiently large and determined band of invaders out, if you pay enough attention), its writing holds up extremely well... as good writing generally tends to.

reply

I think its just the gasoline supply for me, there was no other gasoline source shown or implied apart from the compound , and the little puddle on the road that Max tries mopping up with his glove.
And he drives a V8.
Should be driving one of those Dumb & Dumber mini scooters.

Those bad guys would be out of fuel on day one.
Not a lot of food about either in the desert

If you make it more post-op real you get MadMax3 and everybody says "Aw this is bullshit , no V8s! vroom! vroom!"

reply

Not to mention bikes blow up just like that. They have unlimited supply of new bikes too.

Certainly requires a suspension of disbelief as even if they had gas, there's still general maintenance and various fluids necessary to keep the vehicles running. We're just to assume there's enough to scavenge or pillage within the wasteland for a gang constantly on the move to survive, despite that being incredibly unlikely. =P

Though to give the movie some credit, we only see the gangs wasting fuel on a fruitless attack when we're first introduced to the situation. Other than when the search parties are sent out or Max delivering the rig, the gangs are just camped out and waging a war of attrition. When Max is initially surveying the area, outside the compound you can see a corral with animals and they're all eaten later in the movie. So the gangs seemingly hadn't been there very long before Max arrived. This may have been an all or nothing situation for them.

reply

So that's what the movie is about? It sounds ridiculous and not very original either.

reply

You want it all explained and shown to you. But that doesn't always happen.

She just got away. Yeah, so? We don't know how worried Joe was about it. Maybe his son admitted he was the cause. She just fell down. It's not like they cared much about the people living under the Citadel. Maybe Joe just forgot about her.

When Jack came back it was pretty obvious that his old crew had been destroyed and he'd assembled a new one. He just came with her. Why would Joe question who this woman was? She's with Jack. Driver, mechanic.... what's the difference? He picked her up and took her on his team. It's not Joe's job to worry about Jack's team.

After she came back from the "ride"... well they already realized Dementus had outplayed them and stabbed them in the back. Jack's dead. This woman was with him and she's the only survivor. Joe is a strategist and a leader. He's going to war. And she's just a tool. He didn't say anything back to her. What she wants or doesn't want, Joe's not interested.

Maybe after these events, Joe found out more about her and what a talented driver she is and promoted her. It's hard to find a good man in The Wasteland.

reply

I agree with your whole post. Immortan Joe thought she was important enough to trade for. (No doubt for breeding, which he holds in high regard). So after she shaves her hair and "disappears" no one ever questions it? Especially him? IMO, that is a major overlook in the story.
