I see a lot of responses about the time between seasons if you binge watch. That you forget the details of one season before the next airs.
But I don't think it's the time between seasons that's the issue in this case. After all, even if this were a more traditional one episode per week, it would still be almost a year before the next season airs.
I think the difference is not the time between seasons, but rather that when you watch one episode per week, you have more time for the show to establish itself. You have time between episodes to consider what occurred and discuss with friends, family, and coworkers. A once-a-week show becomes ingrained in the culture.
Binge shows are like a quick pop - watch it through - then forget about it. No time for ongoing discussion between episodes. No time to reflect on what happened previously and no time to deliberate and speculate on what will happen next.
I think it's the opportunity for a weekly show to become part of our culture that make them more memorable, rather than the time between seasons.
