Problem with netflix type shows

Streaming and many cable shows. The Boys had 8 episodes. Many other streaming shows have 8 thru 13. Many folks binge whatch them...so after watching them for 1 week you have to wait a whole year for the next season.

Because I have a life with a family I only have time for 1 episode a night now. and that's the way I like it.

The issue here is after a week the hype is gone and everyone stops talking about it. that's the issue with netflix shows. at least with the boys or Mandalorin it's weekly and the hype and talk can go on for 2 months

you will fine 8 and 10 eps is the new normal now, once upon a time 13 was the magic number stuff like Sopranos Dexter Breaking bad mad men.. now sadly 8 episodes or 10 max you never see shows go longer in season length. I think because of $$$ and a lot of wasted episodes on filler (note the marvel netflix shows had to strength things out. that is the issue with going 12 or 13 episodes.

Yes, I agree. I think 8 or 10 episodes was great when it was just a few shows. We got some really amazing shows that way, that were really memorable and just fantastic, tight, well-crafted storytelling. But now, especially for those of us who get our shows on streaming services, 8-10 episodes of a show that is in its first or second season, means that you are done with a show after a week, and then you have to dive back in to the show store and find something else that looks interesting.

Apparently tv used to be about characters and themes, not so much about plot. Now, every episode also has to have a perfect plot with amazing twists and turns, incredible visuals, something we've never seen before !11!!!!!1! I think that is why seasons are so much shorter, because it's really hard to come up with 22 episodes worth of exciting, tight, unexpected plot turns, especially when there is so much tv out there competing for viewer attention. When it was mainly about characters, your 22 episodes were about hanging out with the characters. You might tolerate some less exciting episodes because of the comfort of seeing familiar characters on screen, a familiar routine etc.

At the same time, there are so many things competing for viewer attention, that I doubt the new mode is going away. Any show that has a few less-than-stellar episodes will lose viewers to whatever shiny thing is on the internet right now.

Did that with each of the two seasons of Mind Hunter. It feels like I started watching that show 5 years ago...

So true. I wonder if it's coming back for season 3...

I haven't seen anything confirming a third season yet. I sure hope it's coming back though.

I don't mind, it's just the way the world is changing, think about it as a 7 hour movie that's released every year.

I am a fan of at least 10 series that are on streaming platforms (Ozark, The Boys, Cobra Kai, Dark, the upcoming Haunting Of Hill House anthology sequel Bly Manor, etc), plus regular series like Archer and Better Call Saul, plus all of the new movies that are released every year (Recently watched Ford V Ferrari, Doctor Sleep, Richard Jewell), there's too much content for me to be able to keep up.

Only doing 8-10 episodes usually means a better quality show, instead of having the writers come up with 20-25 episodes they had to on network TV... which inevitably forced them to write filler episodes, and it wasn't 22 weekly episodes, they would use to take breaks during Holidays, etc.

No, there is no downside for having all shows at once, ever.

An easy and simple solution to this is to re-watch the previous season right before the new one starts "or" watch one episode per week instead of all at once.

The bottom line is, it is better to have the flexibility of "options/choices" than to be limited to only "one".

Some people prefer to choose, while others prefer that someone else chooses for them.

Provide me with all the possible options (all episodes at once) and I will choose 'how/when' and at what pace to watch them.

This is a no brainer!
