Anybody prefer Lynch's version?

I'm asking simply because his version has so much more of the plot in the movie. As visually impressive as the new version is, it just seems devoid of substance.

In the deluxe redux edition there are definitely more memorable scenes and epic lines from the book. And the interiors in Lynch’s version is fantastic.

I definitely see where you’re coming from.

It bothers me that they couldn’t come up with a more exciting conclusion to part 1 , I mean there is literally tons of material they could’ve used instead of just walking away ala lord of the rings.

I like the new one but yeah they could’ve “spiced” it up in places

yeah - definitely, if only because he released the entire film.
I bet he could release it in 3 parts, as is often done these days to milk more money.
In fact, I suspect we'll be seeing more and more of this in the years to come.
Films will be akin to TV series - only each episode will be released a year apart - lol
Isn't it surreal that people are falling for it and not realizing how this will change the film industry?
At this point, you should forget about films in general and stick to mini-series, unless you are ok for the next episode to come out a year later.

By the way, the next big multi-episode film that will come out is avatar - Cameron is making a 3 parter - and I wouldn't be surprised if it is made in a similar fashion - one film split into 3 parts.

Lynch version is ok, but the casting hurts my brain, and seeing them riding sandworms with those little "weirding modules" ... its just so ridiculous that I feel sorry for the actors. Of course it has its excellent casting choices (like Baron Vladimir, even the emperor) but it's just ok, watchable, not great. This version also ok, worth seeing, not a masterpiece. If I had to choose, I'd choose this one, but by a little margin.

I prefer Lynch's but that's not to discount the obvious reasons why the latest incarnation is better.

The 80's clunker has a kind of campy charm about it, though painful to watch in all the well documented areas.

Off course it's a cult gem 💎 it's epic,it has a soul unlike Villeneuve's Dune ...Nobody will remember Dune 2021 just like nobody remembers Blade Runner 2049...Only edgelords.

Was there a bladerunner sequel? Oh yeah! Forgot already..

true

yes. it's just more interesting to look at, dated effects and all. i dont know if it matches the book better or worse and don't care. it's just a better looking movie TO ME. better color, better more interesting looking sets, even better focus. I don't recall seeing a buffalo head in the 84 one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcZPZGq3Zy8

It's hard to choose, because there are now three interpretations of "Dune" (not counting the comics) out there, and each has its good and bad parts. I'm more partial to Lynch's for nostalgia reasons, but it had its drawbacks. While the miniseries did a better job of explaining things, it was somewhat lacking in some areas when it came to story-telling. This film is a better interpretation of the scale and grandeur of the setting, but it too has some drawbacks.

I did not particularly enjoy the Lynch version. I did, however, enjoy the Sci Fi channel version - even with obvious budget limitations and a few wooden actors. Dune (2021) is fine so far, but the actors sometimes look like they are just going through the motions.

When I read the books, I don't recall thinking everyone was so stale and stoic other than the mentats.
