I hope Phillips and Phoenix realize how much damage they've done to their careers with this movie
Let this be a warning to directors every where what happens when you chose to antagonize your audience

shareThey did not damage their careers.
1. Todd will be able to direct mid-budget movies after this, and that is where most of his work was coming from anyway. This was his first big budget movie.
2. Pohenix has 2 movies currently in post-production, and he is mostly focused on art-house movies.
People still say that Phoenix did alright in this movie, and he will always be a Best Actor Oscar winner . Phillips took some damage though
shareI shouldn't imagine they've done much damage to their careers. I don't think Todd Phillips will be given $200m to make whatever he likes again any time soon. But that only happened because he made over a billion on a $70m budget last time around. It's rare for directors to be given that kind of creative licence on such a massive budget anyway. He's hardly the first director to lose a studio money recently.
As for Phoenix: no damage at all. He generally works on lower budget projects he finds interesting anyway. I doubt he was looking to regularly appear in blockbusters. He's just not that kind of actor, is he?
^^gets it.
share"Is it everything you expected?" Phoenix and Gaga are asked at 40 seconds in.

They just look at each other and smile. I don't know about Philips but Phoenix won't give a shit either way. Along with Gaga he got a share of the budget, and he's always being a critically acclaimed actor not a box-office A-lister.

Not really.
The audience you're talking about are only the people who determined or decided they had been antagonized, which only exists in their heads.
Phoenix probably did more damage to his career from backing out of that gay movie at the last minute. Dude's a flight risk. I wouldn't put no money for him if I was a producer.
